Blood in poop

Ds2 had a few specks of blood in his poop a week ago, and the ped recommended for me to stop dairy. Also, she suspected acid reflux, so he's been on Zantac and I've gone off dairy and soy. There was no more blood until today...when there was more than before...not a huge amount...but not specks either. It was bright red. I already spoke to the ped and am taking him in tomorrow....but I'd like to hear if you have any experience with this in your lo. Ds1 had a few specks of blood when he was a baby, but going off dairy and soy resolved it. I know it takes a few weeks to get them out of my system, but I'm concerned because there was more blood today than before. Anything serious that it could be? Also, I'm pretty sure it's not from a fissue because I was changing his diaper and he pooped more...so I saw it coming out, and I *think* it's from inside, not from an anal fissure.

No real advice here. Just couldn't read and leave. Older DD had blood in her poop, but once dairy and soy were removed it cleared up. DD was very sensitive to both, if I ate a hershey kiss, which contains a trace amount of soy lechitn, she would get blood in her stool; is it possible that not all soy was removed?

Did your dd get evaluated by a specialist? I think that's what the ped wants us to do if she can't find any more benign reason for the blood at today's appt. I'm thinking maybe you're right about not having removed all the soy. We got Thai food day before yesterday, and it's not supposed to have soy sauce or dairy...but who knows how they made it. Can your dd eat soy and milk products now?

ds1 (now 6) had blood in stools at about 2 months old. I went off dairy, but doc also did a whole slew of blood tests to rule out other problems. The blood testing was really horrible. I really regret doing that now. Within a few weeks of going off dairy, the blood was gone. I was able to eat small amounts of dairy again by the time he was 5 months. by the time he was 1, he could eat yogurt and it didn't bother him. Now he has as much dairy as he wants and is perfectly fine with it!

What did they do for blood testing? What were they looking for?
How much/how often did your ds have blood in his poop?

I eliminated soy and peanuts and after a couple of weeks she was fine.
If I do have those things in excess, she get's the blood again.

I hope everything turns out to be fine for your DD.

Is there also mucus?

DD had blood in her stools and I went off dairy and soy. Eventually, it did get better, but it takes up to a month for the proteins to clear both your and your baby's systems. It was a rough month for us, I kept on doubting that I was doing to the right thing by continuing nursing, but in the end it was definitely for the best. Her sleep didn't improve until we found the right probiotic. We give her Culturelle for Kids, which is dairy free, and if we miss two days she does not sleep. Keep it up!

My son (now 7 mos) had blood and some mucus in his poop starting at about 8 weeks. I went off dairy and soy (and it is in EVERYTHING) and then slowly they took me shellfish, corn, eggs, treenuts, peanuts and gluten. We have had one poop with a few flecks since then but it is a chalenge to feed us. But, I didn't want to put him on formula. If you decide to go off more food, let me know and I would be happy to share how I"m doing it. Good luck...its scary!

Only in some of the poops, and it's not a lot. Ds1 had a lot more mucus, and that didn't improve even though the blood in his poop went away. It's such a guessing game!

I took ds2 to the ped today, and she wasn't able to see the blood in his diaper as it had all smooshed together...but we did do one of those hidden blood kits right away, so I'm sure that'll come back positive. She did see anal fissures, and thinks it could be that the blood is coming from. She also said the spices in the Thai food we had 2 days ago could have irritated him and caused the blood. I'm a bit confused as to how all this is related to him being on Zantac, removing dairy and soy from my diet, and trying to heal his bottom...and then trying to guess what worked! I need some ideas for a high calorie/fat food I can snack on...I just cannot eat a ton of chicken without spices per day to get enough calories.

I think he had blood in every poop, but it wasn't a lot--just specks mostly. They tested for hemophilia and other things, which I can't remember.

Wow, they thought he had hemophilia because of a few specks of blood? That's pretty scary! I always thought hemophilia is uncontrollable bleeding.
