Fidgeting, grabbing, scratching...ugh *UPDATE*

My 5 mo DS is at that stage where his hands are always busy. So while he's nursing, not only is he super distracted and fidgety, he grabs at my shirt, my other boob, my face, everything he can reach. At night, he grabs and pulls his own ears. I woke up with a little scratch on my nose this morning!

Also, when he's waiting for a let down and it's not fast enough, he yanks on my nipple or kicks me. It's getting super annoying...any tips on how to make him stop? He won't tolerate being swaddled anymore. I've been nursing him in a quiet room which definitely helps, but only with the distraction part. He still grabs everything. Help!

I recently ordered a "nursing necklace" on etsy sice my DD is always pulling at my necklace or scratching at my face. So far today (1st day I've worn it) she's taken a little interest in it so I'm hoping it will help

I'm glad I found this thread, because my ds (almost six months) does this too! He's scratched me a few times as well as his own face. A nursing necklace sounds like a good solution. Occasionally I'll give ds my nursing pad to hold and that helps a bit.

LOL! My DD is almost 5 months and is doing the same thing. Nursing sessions are like boxing matches now! I started holding onto her hand and playing with it, kissing it, moving it around for her, etc. I also try to gently distract her, enough to get her attention but not enough to make her stop nursing, by singing, strategic tickling, etc. To be honest, nothing is really helping all that much; but as long as she's still eating and no one is getting hurt, I guess it's ok.

Oh, and I file those nails down a lot more frequently!! AND pulling my hair back is a must.

I'm going to the craft store today, I'm going to try making my own necklace. I'll let you all know if it works!

I feel your pain. My DS has been challenging for at least 2 months. His hands are in his mouth, scratching his face, pulling his ears etc. Not to mention the kicking. Luckily I can still swaddle him. He fights it and cries but its the only way I can get him to settle down.

I'm sort if relieved to not be the only one. I always thought it was because of my low supply.

So I went to the craft store today, and 50 dollars later I got the supplies for a nursing necklace. (It did not have to cost that much, I was just picky with the stones I wanted to use). I made it long enough to sort of dangle in between my boobs. I put it on before nursing, and I didn't even make any attempts to get DS interested in it. He immediately starting playing with it! He even nursed slightly longer than usual. I'm hoping this continues to work!!!
