 Cue whining...

My husband is putting my son to sleep, and I have approximately 3hrs of work (conservitive estimate,) that I need to finish by tomorrow, so I can hopefully leave work early. (my husband will take pto tomorrow).

I called in sick today because of our sitter situation. Still no word from her. I've been frantically searching cl postings for a nanny to interview for the last 3 days. The back up service can't seem to find anyone (they are blaming the rain?) I'm desperate. I realized to day, that i'd let nearly anyone sit for my son, if someone emailed me and was willing to come tomorrow.

My son deserves better than that. I feel like an awful mom, because I don't even know how I'm going to meet my kiddo's basic needs next week. Who will feed him, put him to bed and change his dipes? I have no clue.

It's OK. We've been there and kids can do fine in a variety of situations.

I once hired a teenager on the spot for babysitting the next day after I met her at our farm co-op pick-up! And the teenager was going to be at her father's that night, so I had to call him and explain everything.

Start asking EVERYONE you know - like everyone at work, the checker at the grocery store, everyone at your partners work and everyone in the neighborhood if they know of anyone who can care for your child on a short or long-term basis. Someone knows SOMEONE who needs work and has some experience with childcare. AND you'll have a personal reference. Have you posted to Facebook or in the Finding your tribe area here at MDC?

Have you tried the local college--Early childhood education majors.

Is there a reason you are not considering daycare centers?

I'm drafting an ad for the 2 local colleges now. That's actually how we found our current nanny.

As for not doing daycare-- No real reason, except that DH works from home. I feel a peace of mind that he at least has an ear out half the time. He also checks in every few hours at least (he has to come out of his office to get food), and normally has lunch with ds.

I know that dh isn't actively doing care, but it seems like a good option to have. When DS was younger, DH did often come down and give a bottle, or rock him for a few minutes. DS was extremely high needs and often spent the whole day crying-- now he's much better and I think I could consider day care in a few months.
