Does anyone have experience or knowledge about Lotus Births? I am considering trying it for my 2nd birth. My first was a lovely homebirth that went as I hoped, but the postpartum was sort of yanked from me prematurely by well-intending (maybe) in-laws. They showed up at my home even before the placenta was birthed, and had to be turned away by the midwives. They were upset by this and acted hurt when they were invited to return later that day. It was still only an hour or so after her birth, but they felt unhappy?! I was not brought dinner, although it was 5pm and while I was enjoying my hot shower, my new daughter was diapered for the first time and dressed in the outfit I was taken home from the hospital in (along with my 2 sisters). I wished I could have done those things. I wasn't asked. I had visitors everyday, they would hold and hold her, walk around and discuss my choice to breastfeed in whispers in the kitchen. They assumed she was dehydrated and brought bottles over, for me to feed her water (which I didn't). I rarely got food or snacks, or any housework done for me during these visits. I feel this contributed to my milk coming in late, around 5 days PP, and our bonding was struggling. We overcame all this, have a great relationship and still nurse now at 2 years -2 weeks
Anyway, this time I think I'd like to do a Lotus to avoid too much meddling in the first few days-week PP. I also am CURIOUS!!! to see what it looks like. I am a midwifery student, and would love to have first-hand knowledge. I'm a little unsure about what to do, what to have etc. and would like to feel a little more comfortable before I fully sign on for it. Please share your wisdom!
Thanks,
Emily
