Wool Stash for Winter Newborn?

I'm knitting my own wool stuff for the baby due in November and I'm wondering how many things of newborn size I would need. I made all my diapers and wipes etc and plan to knit or make longies etc out of old wool sweaters.

So far I have 3 pairs of longies. What other items would I need. I don't really want to make TOO much becuase they grow out of this size so fast, but because I made all the diapers/wipes for nothing I can get away with having a few extra wool items to make life a little easier. This is baby #6 afterall

I was thinking a few sleep sacs, do I need more longies? and not sure if I would use soakers at all with a winter baby.

Thoughts?

I think it depends on how fast your kids grow. Our LO was only in newborn diaper covers for about two weeks. One other thing to think about is with newborn poop wool covers will probably get soiled often, and then take awhile to dry. Is there any way you can make the larger sizes more adjustable incase you need a backup in the first month or so? Otherwise I think I would go for at least one more.

And I've gotta say...WOW for making all your own stuff. You are a rockstar.

i'll be making the next size up as well. actually the 3 that i made already are size small so they are the up to 16lbs i think. i'm not sure if i'll even bother with a newborn size one...i might make a couple just for fun.
i'll also make a few PUL covers for backup...and maybe a couple of AIO's for out and about. I prefer pockets but really - who can stuff an infant sized diaper...hahaha. I have small hands but that would mean only *I* could put the diaper together leaving ME the only diaper changer

We are only using wool covers. I have about 6 longies, 1 shorty, 1 soaker and 4 small size hook and loop wool covers. Really only a couple are newborn size the rest should fit for a few months. Since the recycled wool longies are so cheap and easy to make I figure I might as well have 4-6 since they will likely be washed a lot. Also planning to make a couple sleep sacs.

how do you like the hook and loop wool covers? i was thinking of making a few of those. in fact they might be cheaper to make than PUL ones because i have some old wool sweaters and blankets i could make them out of. i should try some out.
which ones do you have? can you link me?

I made a couple of wool wraps http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/whw-plain-wrap and found them very good (I snappid them). DS is now in the medium size - I keep making them.

Also found the Sleepy Sack on Ravelry to be very versatile with a newborn.

Thanks for the link. I saw that wrap on there so I bookmarked it and will make up a few. I think I'd prefer the wraps over shorties or soakers for the newborn

I also have plans to make some Sleepy Sack's as well!

I hope my wool wraps work fine, someone's grandma made them out of very felted wool, FOE and hook/loop closure. They look great and were free. I got started on knitting a sleep sac but it hardly seems worth it when old sweaters are so much faster to convert.
