Leaky Diapers and Nonabsorptive Bum Geniuses

Blue Penguins, Bumkins, (and older style Bumkins I can't find online,) Bumkins Covers (old enough apparently I can't find a picture similar to) Kushies, Fuzzi Bunz, Nikky, g diaper covers, Kooshies (are these just super old Kushies?), Thirsties (ours are an older style,) Bummis (also too old to locate,) Baby Soft Wraps, Mama something or others, WonderWorks, and a whole plethora of labelless diapers and covers, ALL LEAK.

It's all the more obvious to me after trying to find pictures of what I have that what I have is a bunch of friggen diapers 5 years older than dirt. Unfortunately, we are suddenly both out of work and we have absolute 0 moneys to spend, is there anything I can do to help these diapers?? I am sick of changing kids 50 times a day because I didn't catch the fact that they'd peed within the 10 second time frame I have before the pee soaks through their diapers and to their clothes! I've tried running them through the drier on hot, doesn't seem to help. I don't know if anything will, but I am really desperate

The Bum Geniuses, on the other hand, were only purchased last summer, they really aren't very old and I really don't feel like they should be sucking as much as they are, especially because it isn't like they are the primary use diapers, I only have a handful. We generally reserve them for car rides and overnight and such. When we got them they could take a pee without the baby's skin being wet, but now it seems like everything sits on the surface and they leak out the sides. They have just been stripped, it didn't help. What's up? I invested in these because they were supposed to be so great and both kids could use them...

not too much help here but it sounds like they just all need a good stripping and hot dry... I am still trying to find a good stripping tecnique there are so many out there! but I'd try again with something different and hot water and dry in a very clean dryer.
i would guess old covers might just fail though.

Well, they've all just had a good stripping.. but maybe I should try a different method. I used the cold rinse, wash with blue Dawn, wash a thousand times in hot hot water, dry twice on hot method.

I guess in part I am wondering if I should be bothering with all the effort, or if this is as good as it gets for these and I just need to accept things as the are. But the Bum Geniuses, at least, I expected to be back to good, if not new, after a good stripping.

I'd try stripping with a diff method- especially the BG should be good, you are right! I have tried something different with my current strip attempt based on a few different ways I have read (have never tried dawn). I have also seen a zillion ways to strip with dawn including scrubbing and soaking etc.

I used rockin green- but I bet there are other detergents that could work.
I washed cold with baking soda then did an overnight soak with Rockin Green as per the bag (hot) and completed the cycle in the AM. Then did another hot extended wash with 1/2 the amt and then a hot wash no det and a hot dry.
Everything seems extremely fresh and soft and even looks better, but I haven't used any (other than to see that they seem to be much more absorbant). Even stains have diminished.

Dunno what else to suggest for you but that stripping doesn't always work one way and everybody seems to have a different way!
