Sick mom and vaccines- urgent

Hi All,

I have 2 questions:

1. My DS is 3 months old and hasn't had any vaccines yet. I'm taking him in today to get his DTaP-IPV and they are also going to push pneumococcal. Anyone have any opinions on getting it? Seems like a lot of vaccines for one baby in one go to me.

2. I'm sick. I've picked up a cold from my students and I'm wondering what it could do to his immune system. Do you think I should cancel the appointment? (DS doesn't appear to be sick, just me) My amazing GP suggested that I give my DS vitamin C and zinc leading up to his vaccinations, but I hadn't picked any up yet. I'm wondering if I should just cancel until I have this. Thoughts?

I'd postpone them until you're sure he isn't incubating whatever you have & you've gotten the vitamin C & zinc & been giving them to him fora few days- a week. Vitamin A would also be good if you can find some that you could get into him. Or just supplement yourself really well if you're nursing.

Hmm, sorry I thought i replied to this last night, but now i see it's not there!

Here is what *I* would do (not saying you should, just saying I would). I would give ONLY the dtap to a baby that young. I think polio can wait (since there is virtually no chance of actually getting polio) and I would not allow them to "push" prevnar because i'm a one-vax-at-a-time person so that if any reactions occur I know which vax it is and will stop it.

When we did one dose of prevnar with my ds he got a high fever and was lathargic and therefore did not allow any more doses which my dr. was totally on board with since we were able to pin point it as the reason my ds reacted the way he did. kwim?

It's probably too late for this but I'd wait until you feel comfortable about what you want to do and then clearly tell them your intentions. Also with DTaP if your child is excessively sleepy that is an adverse side effect..............I wish someone had told me.
