teething already??? Impossible??

So DD is 6 weeks old. We notice little white teeth buds about a week after we brought her home.

She has been drooling like a little monster the past few days. Incredibly colicky but then again that's her style. But, in the last few days it is as if she is SCREAMING,ouch.
And tonight has a rash on her hands where she has been gnawing her knuckle.
I attested it to hunger, but nope, kiddo has been fed plenty.

I thought we had six months before this?

Yeah, some babies teethe much earlier. This is probably the very earliest on the spectrum though! Ours started drooling like a madman and chewing on everything at about 10 weeks and still has no teeth buds at 3.5 months but the pediatrician said the teeth are definitely working their way up and will bust out pretty soon.

there is a huge range. That said, unfortunately this massive drooling/chewing and seeming to be in a good bit of discomfort is just pretty common with babies.
I know with DS there were at least a couple of times I swore he must be teething-and acted just as you described-when he didn't until many months later. Fussy baby is no fun for anybody!

I've even heard of babies being born with teeth.

I've heard of a few babies getting teeth before 2 months- certainly not impossible!

Both my sons started teething early. That doesn't mean they will get a tooth - the teeth can shift under the gums for some time before showing themselvs. With DS1, he started teething at 12 weeks but didn't get a tooth until he was 6 months old. His last back molars also shifted for a year under his gums before they showed themselves. DS2 however started teething around 6 weeks. He got TWO teeth at THREE months of age! hahaha! Oh the joys!

NAK
It is possible, but more likely a bout of reflux, maybe a reaction to something you ate.

My baby started doing the things you mentioned at 10 weeks, plus red cheeks. She's 6 months now and still no teeth! Her big sister started at 3 months and got a tooth at 9 months. I guess they teethe for a long time before they get them through. Shifting around I guess as pp said.

The baby who lived next door to us in our old apartment was born with a tooth.

All mine started teething very young, right around 6-8 weeks. And they all varied on when they actually got teeth. Ds1 had 2 teeth at 4 months, Ds2 had 2 at 3 months, but then they disappeared until 5, d3 didn't actually get teeth until about 7 months.
