Anyone make coconut milk with dried unsweetened coconut?

I have a Mark Bittman recipe that tells how to do it. I was wondering if anyone had any actual experience/tips?

I've done it using his technique. It works, and it is cheaper than buying the canned stuff if you can get good bulk coconut.

I don't know anything about Mark Bittman but I just put hot water from the kettle on it and let it soak/cool a bit then squeeze in cheesecloth - this is the thick milk. Then repeat and you get the thin stuff. This is the asian way of doing it.
