Cheese consumption has gone up hugely over the past fifty years (I don't have the statistics in front of me, but it's way more than doubled). Cheese is very high in saturated animal fats, cholesterol, and sodium. Sure it has calcium, so do lots of other things that aren't loaded with fat, cholesterol and salt. There are many studies that debunk the myth that dairy products improve bone health. Countries with the highest dairy consumption have the highest rates of osteoporosis. Normally I stay far away from dietary discussions, but I have a huge problem with people loading kids' food up with cheese.
I would love to see those stats. Are you sure it's all dairy or just liquid milk consumption? I would agree about liquid milk but not fermented milk--cheese, yogurt, etc.

Mine, too. The stinkier and sharper the better.

For us, that's kind of the point. Growing brains need dietary fat.

Fat and cholesterol aren't the villains they have been made out to be.

I feed my DD cheese, and feel good about it.

I feed my children cheese because the saturated fat and cholesterol are good for their developing brains and bodies. They are vital to normal development and not at all bad for them, IMO.

Hmm...ds1 eats very very very few foods but cheese is one of them. I think it's safe to say that he has eaten cheese every single day for several years. So far so good .

I would definitely not feed my child cheese (or other dairy). In my opinion there are much safer sources of protein and [saturated] fat, those that do not come coupled with over 40 mammalian hormones, among other yuckies . . .

That's pretty much why we do feed it to our kids. Saturated fat and cholesterol are very important for proper brain development in small children.

Ditto My kids usually have some cheese cubes as part of their lunch every day.

I forgot to quote whoever was asking about raw milk cheese, but in addition to federal laws there are also state laws about raw dairy products. So it might depend on your state, too.
