Sick the first pregnancy, sick the second?

I know you can't tell me what *my* body will do, but I'd love to hear some of your experiences. One of the considerations of having another is will my body react the same way again? And this time I'd have a toddler to take care of as well? I was horribly, horribly ill throughout the pregnancy. Nothing serious, no GD or high blood pressure or anything (although my body did seem to want to go into early labour at times), but the vomiting and nausea were relentless. If you had an unpleasant pregnancy, did you have another one? I am also over 35, which may or may not factor into it.

My second pregnancy was actually my worst as far as nausea goes. Where I threw up once a day with #1 and felt queasy all day, I threw up twice a day with #2. But I also got phenergan that pregnancy and it helped a lot. I've had three more (this one being my third) since then, and each one is different, though I've never been as sick as that one again. So each one is different, but you would probably be sick again, at least to some degree.

HTH!

My first healthy pregnancy was my worst... almost ended up in the hospital because I could not even keep water down.

second was my best... some days I was totally fine, others I felt extremely hungover.

third was somewhere in between.

I can't offer alot but i only had m/s until i started taking my prenatal vits before i went to bed rather than in the morning....but i run a dayhome and one of my parents is pregnant with her second and she said she was so ill with her first that she didn't know if she wanted to have another and as it turns out she isn't sick at all with this one and she is 20w now...

I don't think age factors into it, I was 36 with my first, 39 with #2. I was far far sicker with #2. Both times I had hypermesis and was on zofran, but #2 I lost a lot of weight (and I really had none to spare not pregnant) BUT, I went off the zofran much sooner - first pregnancy was 26 weeks, this pregnancy I was off at 20 weeks.

They were different, with DD #, I had much more heartburn with vomiting, with #2 I had worse vomiting and then pure he!! stomach pain in my duodenum - I had (still have?) an ulcer diagnoses when I was 18 and the pain came back much worse than before.

We (or I) decided no more kids after this, because I was worse. And it was part of the reason I waited until DD was 3, so she could be entertained on her own much easier.

As for the rest of the pregnancy - I felt fine after the sickness wore off and had no other issues, even being over 35 (knock on wood because I still have 4 more months with this one)

Not trying to scare you, I think things are different with everyone. If you had HG, you are more likely to get it again, but it doesn't mean you will.

I was pretty m/s with DD - no throwing up but horrible food aversions and nausea. It was bad. It was like that from 5w4d until around 13 weeks. My second pregnancy that got far enough to hit m/s, I had it even worse from 5w1d until 7w0d and then I felt really good (still a little green, but functional) That ended up being a m/c but the baby didn't pass until 2 weeks after the m/s let up and was due to something totally unrelated, so the lack of m/s wasn't a contributer. This pregnancy, I have felt the best, m/s started at 5w4d and was only in the evenings, and then it was 90% better by 6w6d. I'm still gaggy and a little green here and there but definitely feel really good for first tri.

Just wanted to give you hope!

I'm just counting my sticky babies here but with my DS I was very very sick. All the time until 16 weeks.
This one? Not bad, really, not bad at all. I just mainly had food aversions and I was queasy a lot and didn't have an appetite but nothing like my first.

I've been wondering that as well. With ds I threw up 2x every day until 15 weeks was misery. This time I want to eat everything in sight and was suffering from nausea only twice. To be fair I'm just over 5 weeks, so it's still early, but I'm hoping this indicates an easier pregnancy this time 'round for being sick.

I've had some degree of m/s with all 12 of my pgs, even th losses. But just counting the sticky babies, #2 was infinately worse than the other three. In fairness, though, I had gallbladder problems going into that pregnancy. plus, I really really did not want to be pregnant, and I really think that played into how sick I was.

Actually the reverse for me. Only slight queasiness & fatigue 1st tri with DS. Nothing debilitating. felt FABULOUS the rest of the time.

Just started 2nd tri now with #2 & have felt unbelievably horrible, It's been absolutely incapacitating.

Miserably sick with my 1st and unbelievably horribly incapacitated with my 2nd, sorry to tell you. I was hospitalized for almost three weeks in the 1st tri and am still vomiting daily at 36 weeks, despite being on meds. I'm kind of shell shocked at how awful it's been. Sorry, that's so not what you want to hear! But as you can see (and as I can attest from everyone who encouraged me not to be afraid to get pregnant again, I thought I couldn't be sicker than I was with #1 - ha!), everyone is different and it is perfectly normal to be sick one pregnancy and to not even notice the next. Still I've learned my lesson and have decided that there will be no #3 until we have saved enough money for a full time nanny for 9 mos so I can just lie in bed and be miserable.

I had horrible morning sickness all 9 months with DD. This pregnacy has been just as bad, if not worse. I wasn't planning on having any more babies but if I was, this would be enough to change to my mind!

My pregnancies have all had nausea and vomiting well beyond the "norm," but never so bad to be HG or anything. I have heard that supporting your liver prior to pregnancy might help but have never done it. Could be worth looking into, though!

Very mild nausea for 2 weeks with #1, utterly horrible wore-seabands-day-and-night nausea for 7 weeks with #2. Never vomited much with either of them, but i'm generally not a vomiter.

I had normal nausea for a few weeks with ds 1.
With my pregnancy loss a year later, I had SEVERE lost 30 pounds in a month HG, from weeks 3-8 weeks when I had the loss.
With my 6 year old, 10 years later, I had moderate HG,threw up a few times but stayed on zofran pump/phenergan for about 8 weeks. Ended at 16 weeks.
With these twins I was sick with horrible adversions and nuasea from 4 weeks to about 10 weeks being on zofran and phenergan helped a lot. Never threw up but was able to stay in bed and not move for 7 weeks solid. I feel great now. I am 16 weeks now.

Every one is different. No matter what you do/try you will not know how sick you will be. You just have to take the risk and prepare. Get childcare lined up ahead of time. Child proof a room where you can lie down and die while you know your little one is safe. Get foods in the freezer. Line up housework help from friends or family or your church if you have one. Preparation is the key. And dont be afraid of meds if you need them.

I have had less nausea with the second pregnancy, and only one episode of vomiting. With the first pregnancy, I vomited on a daily basis for weeks on end.

However, I'm enjoying this second pregnancy less. The heartburn/constipation thing has kicked in earlier than the first time. Also, I felt beautiful & sexy w/ the first, but dumpy and tired w/ the second. Maybe b/c I'm 6 years older!!!

Horrible restless leg syndrome w/ both.

Love it. Moms are so strong!

I had none with DS and really bad for only a few weeks (like 5) with this one. I think each is different.

I'm grateful for the sickness this time around otherwise I wouldn't have known until I started showing we were going to have another one

Sick with #1, waaaay sicker with #2. Quitting while I'm ahead.

I had HG with both pregnancies. I've read there is about a 50% chance of developing it in a subsequent pregnancy if you've already had it.
