Probiotics + dairy allergy. What do we do? Help please!

We've been giving DD Neonate probiotics since birth. DS has a lot of allergies/sensitivities, so we've been trying to boost her gut in order to avoid a repeat.

Sadly, she's quite sensitive to a number of foods (DW has been eliminating things as she's the nursing mom). One of them is dairy.

I just realized last night that her probiotics are in a dairy base. Is this dairy base "active" and thus would trigger her sensitivities further or is it benign? Just wanting to do the right thing for our babe!

I don't remember the brand, but I am pretty certain the liquid probiotics we were getting were dairy free. Do you have a Whole Foods near you? We got it in the refrigerated section there.

I used to use dairy kefir all the time, but last year I switched to making water-based kefir. But you probably want to use something stronger. In Canada we have Trophic Non-Dairy probiotics, but that's the only pill that comes to mind...

Yes, for some who are dairy sensitive, probiotics grown on dairy can be an issue. I believe Kirkman makes an infant probiotic that is dairy free.

It really depends on your babe.....supposedly when the probiotics are grown in a dairy or soy medium, the bacteria breaks down all of the proteins. Some kids will be okay taking it. My DS is extremely intolerant of any amount of dairy and soy, and he reacts to every probiotic that we have tried. So, I make water kefir for him and he drinks that on a daily basis.

We use Klaire labs probiotics. They can be purchased here with the physician name Dr. McCandless (who gave permission to use her name in a book she wrote) and her name gives you a discount as well. You can order them in other places too I'm pretty sure (Amazon maybe?). Kirkman's does make allergen friendly probiotics as well.

also, you want an infant formula, not just water kefir, because the bifidus in an infant formula helps with food intolerances. water kefir would be better for a child past weaning age.
