Gassy/fussy baby while nursing

Thread Starter
I have a 12 day year old. It seems like every other day breast feeding is challenging. Baby cries and fusses at the breast--and it looks like he needs to pass gas or have a bm. Is there anything that works to help him get rid of that gas or stimulate his bowels? He just struggles and fusses until it finally occurs, which is sometimes hours later. For example, yesterday, he had two good bms in the morning and was really fussy in the afternoon through this morning, when he had another bm.

both of my boys have been the same way. My youngest is 7 weeks old and still has days like this. I really think it is just their age. They're digestive systems are still developing and figuring things out. They call this the "fourth trimester" and by the time our babies are 3 months old I'm sure they'll be far less gassy.

hang in there! this too shall pass

I was just coming on to post this exact question. My little one is 3 weeks, and struggles so to pass gas or have a BM. It is disheartening! I'm trying to track my diet, but so far what I eat doesn't seem to have much affect on her ability or inablity to move her bowels.
