Violin? Suzuki method parent guide

Anyone have a young one doing violin at school? The charter prep school with a strong emphasis on arts(drama, music and art class) I enrolled dd back into has started a suzuki violin class for the pre orchestra grades of K thru 2nd or 3rd. Normally orchestra is only offered 4-9th at this school. It was going to be once a week but she now is having violin on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Any tips I should know on how to work with her on practicing? So far she doesn't do much because she hasn't learned much, only had 3 classes so far. I read music and have a little bit of music background(keyboard/piano)but don't want to get her too far in until they are ready. I don't want to compromise this suzuki method, learning by ear and such by showing her much of what I have learned already. I of course, having some musical inclination, have played with it a bit and taught myself twinkle twinkle little star but working on getting it right. Its a half size and I have problems getting the fingers right because its such a small area.

I know there are books for parents on the Suzuki method, so I would probably look for some of those. We've been doing Suzuki with ds1 for a year and a half, and will start with ds2 today. But, this is not a school program, it's private lessons, and I have been working right along with ds1 from the start. Suzuki includes very heavy parent involvement, so I am not sure how it is adapted in a school setting. There's a Suzuki thread in the Finding Your Tribes section, so maybe that would help. A few of the ladies there are Suzuki teachers and former pupils as well as parents of Suzuki kids.

I think it's very cool that the charter school is giving the kids the opportunity to learn, though!

There's a suzuki tribe in the "Finding your tribe" area. There are some very experienced mamas over there that have TONS of great advice so I would head over there and read through the thread and maybe say hi!
