Im not sure where to post this, please someone feel free to move it where it belongs if this forum is the wrong place.

Im about to buy a new crib mattress for #2 who will be born in december. All the different options (wool, soybean, metal coils, vinyl, organic cotton) are making my head spin. Where to I even start to figure out what is safest? Is there a crib mattress out there that isnt full of chemical and that won't cost me $300?

I ended up buying this

http://www.amazon.com/Sealy-Soybean-...4165736&sr=1-1

since it's lighter and claims at least to have fewer chemicals and costs significantly less than the $300 for a completely organic mattress. I have no idea what the *best* is though.

We also switched to the Sealy Soybean mattress after reading the articles on this crib mattress reviews page.  So far we think it lives up to the good ratings.  People who bought this mattress on Amazon or Walmart really seem to think it was a good choice and frankly that and it's eco-friendliness sold us.  It's firm, easy to lift and pretty much chemical free.  We also thought of the Sealy Baby Posturepedic (because of the great consumer ratings) but it didn't seem so eco-friendly and we didn't want coils.  Naturepedic also make an organic cotton crib mattress but it is too exepnsive.  It is almost 300USD where the Sealy mattresses are more like $100 to $120 or so.

We have this model from Organic Grace (MDC mama) http://organicgrace.com/ntb_crib-mattresses $260, free shipping, very comfortable for baby, no stink,

More expensive yes, but not difficult to resell on Craigs List for $100+
