Supply question

Ok, so I'm 8 days postpartum and my milk came in on day 2. At first I had a very abundant supply in both. Now one is "perfect" and the other breast doesn't seem to be getting full again, even after several hours of not nursing. My dd doesn't like to nurse that side and now its worse because she seems to be getting so little. I can hear a few swallows then nothing, proceeded by her crying and pulling off. The other side I hear lots of swallowing. I read somewhere its normal for supply to drop and that there is more milk than I think, but it concerns. Any advice?? Thank in advance

(I've seriously considered an LC to see if its her latch on that side, but I'd feel silly if I'm imagining a drop in supply)

At 8 days, you probably should not have a substantial reduction in supply. I definitely think you should look in to why that side has less milk. Either a LC or LLL Leader can help you. MUCH LUCK!

The LC doesn't think there's a problem because she has already gained past birth weight. My dd keeps pulling off and getting frustrated though. I'm super frustrated. Yesterday it felt like I had more milk, today it feels low again. Everyone keeps telling me they don't get full with the second, but something feels "off." I guess I'm just worrying over nothing, it's hard. I thought you'd know more with your second, but not so!!

Especially since you have one that is feeling full + hearing lots of swallows and one that you aren't, you are probably right in that there is less milk on that side. It makes sense too, if babe isn't sticking out feedings on that side.

Are there any obvious breast/nipple differences between the sides? Does the less preferred side have a faster/slower letdown? Or maybe baby is uncomfortable latching on that side. Have you tried football as well as cradle/cross cradle, to switch up the head orientation?

Other things you can look for would be if you did something recently like eat a dish made with lots of sage or mint or water intake drop off, are you eating enough, etc. But it seems to me that this probably has more to do with babe's dislike for the one side.
