Just had to share with those who would understand

Yesterday, my daughter made a computer at school. And today she said she's going to make a mouse!

Of course, this is a drawing, complete with monitor and keyboard with space bar. "Just like yours, Mommy!"

I don't get it. Is this at a WS and you're embarrassed beyond belief? Or are they giving her a hard time about it? Or do you have Waldorf leanings and this is proof that if only she were in a WS she'd be drawing gnomes instead (no snark, I went to a WS)?

Embarrassed beyond belief? Not hardly. I'm very proud of her. She's 4. She's using her imagination and I think it's wonderful. She's demonstrating that she's not limited to the idea of a computer that sits in our home. To my knowledge, no one gave her a hard time about it and I wouldn't expect that either of her teachers would.

ETA: She's at a waldorf kindy and has been for the last 2.5 years. She'll be 5 next mos and started at 26 mos.

im glad she is finding her artistic expression.

im just a bit floored that they encouraged her to make a computer!

it is unlikely that they encouraged it, but it is likely that they allowed/supported it once she began the expression.

for better or worse, the computer is part of hte lives of our children. for them to depict and play with them is no different than depicting and playing with a kitchen.

Exactly. This was not a class project. The children can take out crayons and paper during free time at their choosing. When I got home from work today, she presented me with a "computer" and she had made another for herself. It folded up like a laptop. We opened them and pretended to type. I think it's great that she's not clammoring to be on the computer but can be engaged and entertained with a piece of paper.

And tonight she made a blackberry.
