DH's latest blood work came back with a decrease in white and red blood cell count. They are going to have him see a hematologist. Does anyone have any experience with low white or red blood cell count? What could cause both of those levels to decrease. I am happy that something finally popped up as abnormal but I am scared that it will be something serious. Thanks for any input.

Hi. I hope you have had some good news by now... you must be worried.
I don't know too much about what specifically could be the problem but I do know that many viral infections inhibit the productivity of bone marrow, resulting in low red and white counts (and low platelets sometimes too). I've seen it in myself and my children, and had more than one doctor reassure me that this is a normal response to viral infection.
I hope you get some answers and some peace soon.
