We have a 1950s house in southern CA we bought late last year; it had a few spot treatments for termites over the years, but nothing for the last decade, & its... buggy. Not "about to fall down" buggy, but "golly, I don't believe spot treatments would work anymore" buggy. So we're planning on tenting it with Vikane gas next month - it looks like the best option for removing all of the existing termites - but now, after having originally read how with this gas, you do need to remove all non-canned type foods, live plants, medicines, & crib mattresses, & leave open all closets, plastic storage tubs, etc., but that it all evaporates in the day & a half they spend airing it out, no residues - now I'm reading some places that it could linger in things like upholstered chairs or carpeting, & also something about it sinisterly lurking for about 45 days before it suddenly releases leftover gas?
They want to tent for a day & night, air it out with fans a day & night, then we'd move back later the 3rd day. They said their detection equipment has to be registering 0.
Anyone else have experience with tenting with this stuff? I want to get rid of the bugs eating our house, but obviously don't want to do something hazardous to our family. We might want to sell it in a few years, so can't have little termite pellets raining down on inspector's heads in the garage or around the eaves, either.
Tell me your termite eradication experiences, please!
