In our house, food is eaten at the kitchen counter (we have stools there) or at the dining room table, or else outside (or, eating popcorn when the kids are asleep! ). There's no walking around the house eating food. It's hard enough keeping a clean house without adding that little wrinkle in.

I'll also add that I struggle keeping DD1 away from eating in front of the TV. We started with that rule for cleanliness, but it became this creepy "TV = I'm hungry" conditioning for her, so I got more serious about enforcing that rule.

My house is generally pretty cluttered, but I don't let food in many of the rooms, so it's fairly contained. For us, really messy stuff can only be eaten at the kitchen table, and other things can be eaten in the rec room as well as the kitchen, except if we're having a party. . . then they can eat in the living room as well.

Well, if we don't eat at the table - we have small tables in tv room dd can eat at with her kid chair AND with a tray. (I use a tray eating outside of the kitchen in there myself too). I try to insist she not walk around while chewing, and if that's a problem we move the food out of there. So only two rooms we eat in - at tables in either of them.
She's also asked to clean up messes that get too big (I keep a large sponge and let her use all-purpose cleaning spray on it - then use a carpet spray later).
