Tugging on ears

Dunno if this is the right section or not but here it goes....

My girl is 9.5 months old, since shortly before her two first bottom teeth came in at around 7 months she has been tugging at her ears every once in a while. When those two teeth cut she stopped for a bit so I always thought that was why. But in July after a very mild cold she got an ear infection in her right ear, I didnt realize it because she'd been tugging the ears so much for so long, except this time she was sticking her finger in her ear.....it was her fever of 102.5 that worried me which is why we went to the pediatrician. Anyways she was given amoxi and later developed a rash, but it worked on the ear regardless....but the past couple days she's been tugging again and seems stuffed up at night and today she was sticking her finger in the ear again. No fever yet, but she has been sleeping AWFUL lately.

I am not sure where to go from here, do I assume this is another infection coming on and can I prevent it? I dont want to put her on antibiotics again, especially so soon and since she had that rash. I had tons of ear infections as a baby and ended up with tubes, I dont want my baby to go through that!

Thanks!

You could try probiotics, though I don't know if it's too far along for them to prevent it-- probiotics work best as a daily maintenance. Other than that, my mom used to put one drop of warm olive oil in our ears when we had earaches to minimize the pain, but again, that won't stop an infection.

OP, I don't know much about this, but when DD started pulling at her ear, I found this info.
Ours turned out to be teething, but there's some good info on home remedies and prevention at this link.

Thanks for this, I was thinking of looking it up as 16mo DS is pulling on and digging his finger into his ears, but he also just got a couple new teeth.

DS 8mo tugs and twists his ears frequently but he has no fever or unhappiness and looks like he's just grabbing things. Should I be worried? He has no teeth yet, but I did notice a change in his suck a while ago.
