Two strands of white hair on my 4 yr old's scalp??

How is her thyroid function? I personally have white, wiry hairs on my head that I've recently found out are related to my thyroid. I'm going to start a supplement soon (if it ever gets here! hurry vitacost.com!).

My 6 year old DS1 has 2 white hairs on his head too, I first noticed them several years ago. It's not a "lighter in the sun" thing for him either (my kids are 1/4 Korean), I'm not sure what causes them.

SurbubanHippie - how did you find out yours were related to thyroid function? What supplement are you looking at getting? (I'm thinking for me, not for DS1, of course.)

Everyone I know throws out weird hairs here and there. I wouldn't worry over one or two.

I've heard that "grey hair before 40" could indicate thyroid issues. Not sure if that's accurate or not. You could try googling that....I'm sure I've read it somewhere before.

DH is Korean and he has had a few odd strands of white hair his whole life. I wouldn't worry

Thanks mamas. I had thyroid issues as an adult so this vaguely worries me (although I'm sure it's one of those 'normal anomalies' since it's just two...) I'd just never heard of any other child having that (although it's never come up in conversation). I think I will take her to the doctor just to be sure...I'll let you know what I find out.

ETA: I had tons of grey/white hair before 40 so the whole thyroid connection is true for me.

I started having other symptoms and finally stumbled upon stopthethyroidmadness.com. Finally, all the symptoms, including the weird hair, added up. The supplement is an overall thyroid support. I was mainly looking for l-tyrosine and iodine though when I was searching. The one I chose has both, plus other supplements in it for thyroid issues.
