Insomnia, anyone??

Last night I was wide awake from 1-3am. No contractions, just awake. Here we are again tonight. Anyone care to join me?

Me. I've been awake almost every night for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night. Sometimes I get up at 4am and I'm up for the day. So frustrating, because it would prolly be nice to rest up a bit before labor starts.

yes.. last night was horrible .. for me, i think tis because i'm hot.. despite turning the AC down 4 times last night and having the fan on high.. i was just drenched in sweat every time i tried to fall asleep .. i'm not that uncomfortable otherwise.. if i could just get cooled off i think i could sleep

I've been struggling with debilitating insomnia for almost 2 months so I feel for you. I've tried everything. (Though I would be delighted if I were only up for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night.)

Yep insomnia is my third trimester curse, I have had luck with a homeopathic remedy called Calms Forte, totally safe in pregnancy, but honestly the last few weeks nothing has helped. I am up several times for 1-2 hours.

Nap when you can!!

Thanks for the commiseration. It's very unusual for me. I can usually fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I went back to bed after about 2 hours and tossed and turned for another 2 hours. Slept for a few little 15 minutes segments. I thought about benadryl around 4 am, but felt like it was too close to morning at that point. Tonight I think I'll definitely take it before going to bed.

I've also been cursed for the past few months with middle of the night insomnia. I've watched lots of movies, crocheted hats, cleaned and surfed the 'net. Usually it's from 1-4am or so.

Have had insomnia as well though it has gotten a bit better. July and the beginning of August were a nightmare. If I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back to sleep I try a warm bath. That usually helps and it makes me feel like I'm doing something. I also found that I slept better if I had a protein-filled dinner.

I seriously think the newborn period will be more restful than the last trimester of this pregnancy...

Have you tried a teaspoon of local raw honey before bed? When I actually remember to do this, I sleep much more soundly, even going back to sleep after the 3 trips to the bathroom. I think it stimulates additional melatonin production. Just don't turn the lights on when you get up to go.
