Can you tell the gender from this US photo?

I'm about 18-19 weeks pregnant and had out "big" level II US the other day, and we don't find out the gender. We just never have, it's not something we care to know ahead of time. We have 2 boys and this is our last. We don't want a girl anymore than we want a boy - we just want a healthy baby, seriously we don't care (although if you ask my husband about having a daugther he panics because I don't think he can handle the idea of a daughter of his dating which is for whatever reason the first thing he thinks of).

Anyways, I posted a few pics on my FB and a friend of mine saw this one and said "Oh you're having another boy!".

I kind of felt like I'm having a boy, as this pregnancy mimics my last 2 and this baby is already measuring 2 weeks ahead in size, just like my last moose. And YES I do see something between the legs but I don't trust fuzzy photos and errant cords, etc.

And don't worry about spilling the beans, I already think it's a boy anyways regardless.

BABY

I would not trust that picture... since it was not taken to show the gender it could be anything, like just how baby's leg is connected to the pelvis.

That doesn't scream penis to me either, but the woman who said is about 22 weeks pregnant with her first - so I was surprised that she would be able to tell and me after having 2 boys already, well I couldn't. LOL.

lol... yeah it really doesn't scream boy and looks an awful lot like the penises I swore I saw on Maes ultrasound over and over until the tech finally told me girl!

The thing that looks like a penis is white... wouldn't that indicate bone? I only have one boy, but I feel like the penis showed up much darker on the u/s. Plus, they knew you didn't want to find out, so why would they give you a picture that shows the gender?

No, you can't tell by this picture. I worked at a place that did ultra sounds on pregnant mamas and saw many. (I didn't perform them but I still saw tons)

When I was pregnant with my 2nd I did not want to find out. When I got home and was looking at the pictures there was one that clearly showed it was a girl. HUbby had me call the U/S place to confirm. The tc said "no, no, I wouldn't have taken a picture anywhere near that are if you didn't want to know the gender." Um.....then why am I looking a a libia, lol.

Thanks for looking!

I agree, I don't feel convinced that the nub I see is anything but either a piece of the leg or cord or something, which is what I'm guessing she assumes is a penis. I don't think the tech would purposely give me a really in your face photo either, she was really nice actually about me not knowing. Honestly I'm so bad at looking at these photos I can't even make out legs so thankfully the tech assured me that 2 legs and 2 arms are present.

It's not really a 'crotch' shot so you can't really tell. With both my twins and son they showed the split leg's and you could tell for sure that way.

Yeah, I don't think there's anything obvious in the picture!

I think because it's a side-view and not intended for gender, there's no way to know. We have a pic like that and people keep saying they can tell the gender and I just don't believe them that they can tell from that view. They could be looking at anything. I really think you need a "crotch shot" to tell for sure. We aren't finding out the gender.

I'm no expert, but I would say, IF that's genitalia we're looking at, I'd be leaning more towards the baby having a labia. My sister's twin girls had similar profile shots. But then again, I'm no expert.

Umm... welll... it's a baby! I can tell that much!

OMG that ingender site is crazy. They post pics of blurry blobs at 12 weeks gestation and can tell the gender! I found this link in particular to be totally fascinating.

I obviously am painfully ignorant in the world of ultrasound anatomy....

You can't tell gender from that picture it is not where you look to determine gender.

I don't think you can tell at all from that picture. I'm was floored at my 19 week ultra sound as the boy parts were all over the place! All he did was moon us!!

Look at our boy pic here!

Um yea! That's a boy. LOL.

We weren't trying to get the parts shot so that's why I have this photo only....
so I guess we'll just wait until February to find out for sure! Although I'm bringing a blue coming home outfit for the birth because it still feels boy to me regardless of photo.

nope, can't tell at that angle. it's not a good view of the genitalia.
Yeah she wasn't even trying to get that shot when it happened. Within a minute of her starting I said, "Its a boy!" lol! I don't think we could have not found out! It was just as obvious at the 30 week US as well! :P

You can't tell gender from a profile shot at 18/19 weeks. At 12/13 weeks a side profile shot (if a nub is seen) can be pretty accurate (techs say up to about 85%) on telling gender, but I must say it was wrong for me. And I've seen it be wrong many times for others.

At 18/19 weeks you need a toilet shot (what some others refer to as a "crotch shot"). I don't see any gender clues at all, either way, in your pic. Also, the absence of a penis or boy parts does not necessarily mean it's a girl, you need to see the famous "3 lines". That said, sometimes boy parts can hide and the scrotum when squished can show lines too! And sometimes (earlier on usually, like 16 weeks) a girl can have a very swollen clitorus which can be mistaken for a penis. But the closer you get to 20 weeks, the more accurate u/s.

HTH!
