potty training help!!

My almost 3 year old son was using the potty just fine for a while... he seemed to learn quick and be into it. We bought him underwear and thought we were on a roll. Now, he refuses.. for seemingly no reason. Any suggestions to try are always met with a "NO" and if he's naked he just pees on the floor, even when the potty is right beside him. We've tried stickers, books and movies about potties, having his stuffed animals go potty. We are very open about let him in the bathroom with us as well... and we never push, only suggest. He just all of the sudden doesn't seem to care.
On a side note, his behavior has gotten worse than usual lately... and I'm wondering if maybe the refusal to use the potty is mostly about asserting his will to do absolutely nothing that I suggest! For other moms that this sounds familiar to... is this something that just passed when the 3 year-old "I can do whatever, whenever" I want stage passed? Since he already knew how to use the potty, I'm wondering whether his interest will simply pick back up when he gets through this stage.... or do I need to up my game and think of more creative things to get him interested again? He had always been a kid that needs novelty to stay involved (I have to keep changing his cups so he'll drink!). But, I'm running out of ideas for this one!! Any suggestions?...

Sounds like a developmental thing.

I have had good luck just calmly sitting down with DD and explaining her peepee goes in the potty and that accidents happen and are okay, but we expect her to try and make it to the potty. For some reason she responded really well to that.

Other than that, maybe your DS needs to go back to diapers for a bit to drive home the point that he can choose to skip the potty, but there are consequences?

Make sure he's helping to clean up any messes.

Good luck.
