My family is in love with the TV show The Colony. I was surprised there was not a thread on here about it already. It's on Discovery and it's FANTASTIC! I just ordered season 1 on DVD to give the kids for the holidays.

Anyone else watching this??

I just added it to my DVR timers and I watched it for the first time today. I'm hoping they have all this season's episodes on sometime soon so I can get caught up. I didn't realize this was the second season. I'd like a little more backgroud info...off to the Discovery Channel website.

THE COLONY is an experiment that simulates a post-apocalyptic world in which volunteers are tasked with surviving and rebuilding everything from scratch, using only raw ingenuity and supplies they scavenge from their environment. Here's your destination to learn more about these bold experiments into a dark future that holds the promise of hopeful regeneration.

Season Two of THE COLONY introduces viewers to a new group of volunteers with differing backgrounds, skills and personalities, to bear witness to how these colonists will survive and rebuild in an urban wasteland on the outskirts of New Orleans. Over the course of 10 episodes, the colonists - who include a construction foreman, teacher, carpenter and auto mechanic - must work to utilize and strengthen their exploration, technology and survival skills in ways they've never had to before.

From their initial 72 hour isolation period to the threats of hostile outsiders, see how the colonists respond and use their newfound skills to protect their supplies and lives.

I watched Season One. It was quite addictive.

For some reason, this season isn't as interesting to me. I don't understand why these colonists don't make security more of a priority. It seems like a no-brainer to me. What good is having food and a power supply if your security is weak? They have no listening posts, no observation posts, no perimeter security. Anyone can sneak up on them and have. A member got "kidnapped" so far.

We just discovered it this season so season 1 will be a treat. I agree about season 2 and the security issues. Right now they just seem focused on getting out of where they are.

Of course this being a reality show, things are scripted. And the show won't work on a psychological level because these people KNOW they have loved ones back at home and they aren't really in great danger. I don't think you're really going to see mad survival skills in a situation like that. But the show has value for what NOT to do in a survival situation!

Looking forward to tonights new episode. Looks like the group will be divided which will be interesting now that they have Tick.

Because of the scripted nature, I just couldn't get into it.

I've seen community/colony dynamics in real life, though it was spiritual isolationism and paranoia rather than physical in that case.

I think a drama with the same concept, that was well written and openly fictional, rather than "reality" would be awesome though.

OMG I've heard crazy things about this show. A girlfriend of mine loves it - I need to DVR it and see what it's all about!

We watched S1 and really enjoyed it. The hubs is pretty obsessed with post-apocalyptic events and storylines, so it was ALWAYS recorded. S1 had some extremely brilliant, highly competent people (engineers, medical professionals etc), and it did two things: (1) made it totally unrealistic -- when it's the apocalypse are you really going to find yourself with a doctor, an ER nurse, 2 or 3 engineers, a rocket scientist...?!!? No. BUT (2) these people made it really fun to watch bc they solved problems in ingenious ways and built crazy contraptions along the way. Flame throwers were involved, people, need I say more?!

It's pretty hard to suspend disbelief, though. We're always like, dude, just walk a few miles and you'll find a mcdonalds to get yourself a cheeseburger so you won't have to ration grains of rice anymore!

Just got notice yesterday that amazon shipped my season 1 dvd's now the tricky part will be waiting till the holidays to give it as a family gift!

I am enjoying this show a great deal despite the scripted nature of it all. And I am not a survivalist by any means so I am very impressed by some of the things these folks are coming up with.

I would never in a million years volunteer to be on this or any reality TV show. But I sure enjoy watchin!
