Wrong class?

After a year at his school in a life-skills/functional academics class--of which my son was the only functional academics student, I thought he'd be placed into a functional academics class this year. All the students in the class are autistic, but my son seems to be the most functional of the group. Five years of intensive therapy have gotten us to the point that he is doing very well--he just does not talk at all. We are working to get him a communication device. Should I bring it up to the school? I'd like him to go half-days in the mornings and get his private therapies in the afternoons. Except that he has occupational therapy in the morning and his speech and ABA are in the afternoons.

Yes, if you feel your son is in the wrong class, absolutely call an IEP. Will the district provide the communication device?
