Day 6 and still no let-down reflex

DS is 6 days old. My milk looks like milk but I never got the watermelon boobs like last time. There's no squirting all over the place and DS is still not gulping and swallowing loudly like I remember DD doing "when my milk came in".
Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't be worried. With DS2, my milk came in much more "gracefully" than it did with DS1. For one thing, DS2 nursed way more often than DS1 did, so I think he was drinking enough that I never got a chance to get engorged.

My second nursing experience was much different from the first. Many women never "feel" the let-down and engorgement may not be there with second and subsequent babies. As long as you're seeing an appropriate number of wet/dirty diapers and the baby is gaining weight well, that means the milk is going in, even if you're not feeling the same as you did last time.

With my latest, my fourth, I didn't get the watermelon boobs til the next week. I knew my milk came in about day 4 or 5 but she nursed so often, it never engorged. If she is pooping, peeing, eating and gaining, you are fine.

I just delivered my 3rd child 2 weeks ago. My milk came in really quickly...like around the 24 hour mark ( I know...amazing!) and since babe was nursing almost constantly around the clock I NEVER got engorged, or even really that full. I don't leak if I keep a bra on...no pads needed. Also, I've NEVER felt letdown....EVER...with all three kids and I can quite frankly feed a third world country. When I would pump, I would get 10 oz in 10 minutes. Consider yourself lucky!!!

Thanks mamas. Now at day 15, I know everything is fine. I remember being worried at Day 6 with DD even thought I had watermelon boobs. Just something about Day 6 for me I think.

Yup. With my first, I never felt let down until somewhere in the 2-3 month range and that only lasted a week. I nursed him successfully until 20 mos. With my second, we're well into our 11th month and I haven't felt it yet. You're good.
