Well there are people that would abort for other things shown on the ultrasound (defects incompatible for life, ect) besides sex.

Once you get past a certain point, can't you only abort for certain types of reasons?

Yep. I have a friend who chose to terminate a trisomy-18 pregnancy well after her first ultrasound. It was an extremely painful decision to which the only more painful alternative was being forced to carry to term a baby she knew would not live.

I'm in British Columbia. I've had 2 babies in Vancouver. Both times I had a 20 week u/s at an u/s clinic (not a 3D paid place) and they wouldn't tell us either time. I got 1 terrible photocopied photo for free. (As an aside, I'm pretty sure that all the maternity rooms at BC Women's hospital are private but you pay for tv and phone).

This time I'm pregnant on Vancouver Island, covered by VIHA (a previous poster mentioned this) and they won't tell us either. The hospital here (only place locally that does u/s) will put gender in the report after 23 weeks (I think) but only if it's obvious to the tech. They won't tell you at the appt and they won't spend time looking. (They also won't let us bring kids in to watch at the end after the anatomy scan). We can pay 15 bucks for a proper photo.

A friend wanted to know the sex so she drove 3 hours south to Victoria and paid to go to a 3D place.

oh there are not many place up here IN BC that you can find out the gender... there are lots of private clics that will but it's at a cost.... $ 100 usually to start but apparently the regular clinic are getting in on the money band wagon and charging $ 50 for gender.....
