converting covers to pockets

I have lots of motherease airflow covers, which I had been using over Terry flats. However DS in currently using pull ups over night and takes them off to use the toilet in the morning (well mostly!) so I want something he can manage himself.

If I cut fleece to the shape of the cover and sewed it in to make a pocket do you think it would leak?. Would a cycle through the drier be enough to close up the holes made by sewing it?

Would I be better hand sewing the fleece onto the binding?

I think that would work. Just make sure you use 100% polyester thread.
