top loader washing question

This may sound like a stupid question, but I am used to a front loader....

With a top loader, do you have to re-start the washer for each part of the wash cycle (pre-wash, then hot wash, then extra rinse)?

I am going to be staying with my mom for a week and hoping to CD while there in her machine. If it is 3 starts, how you do remember to keep going back to re-start it? I know I am going to forget they are in there!!

Honestly, it depends on the machine. We got a "new" (lightly used) washing machine that has an "extra rinse" option on one of the cycles...

But for most: Yes. Do you have a cell phone? Set timers to go check on it and whatnot.

like afw, just depends, my top loader needs to be started each cycle AND doesn't beep at all. so yeah, i forget a lot. the dryer takes several cycles to dry and also doesn't beep, so even more time wasted.

my old front loader could be preset to do an extra rinse. and it also beeps loudly. so i couldn't forget.

we're in temp housing and i can't wait for my frontloader back

I have a toploader which I really like. It has the option of an extra rinse and even my older one did too. I only have to set it twice. Once for the cold pre-rinse and then for the actual hot wash with 2 rinses. I could have both the dryer & washer buzz when they are done but I purposely set them on off for less noise.

Every top loader I've used has a built in option for extra rinse so I just set it once. I just set it for hot wash, cold rinse plus the extra rinse cycle. A pre rinse isn't necessary.

I have a tl now and do have to reset it every time. I am used to it since it is my machine but think the timer or alarm would be very helpful to you since you are not used to having to remember to restart.
