Nap time for almost 3 year old

So my almost 3 year old (in just a few weeks - yikes!) has been having a hard time going down for naps after lunch. I have tried to just do lunch and then a nap so we have time to do something in the afternoon, but he plays in his bed for an hour or so and then sometimes will fall asleep but it seems like a struggle (he gets upset about something, anything). Sometimes he will nap for 2-3 hours! Of course, then, he is wide awake and can not go to bed before 8:30-9pm. Which is fine, but mommy and daddy would like some adult alone time too, ya know?

And, right now, he is waking up around 2 am then 4am, then 6-7 and I give him an iTouch to watch movies so I can get some sleep (I am 24.5 weeks pregnant and pretty tired and need sleep too!). He was almost sleeping through the night, but for some reason, that changed. Argh.

Anyway, I was curious when your 3ish year olds are taking their naps and how long they are?

When do preschoolers drop their naps?

I don't think I can help much except to say that my 3 year old is also going through the same thing. If she doesn't nap, she is overtired and wakes up often during the night. If she does nap, she will often only fall asleep at 9pm too. However, then she will sleep through.

She also seems unable to fall asleep in her bed at naptime, the only thing that works is going for a walk in the pram. Then she naps for an hour in the pram and wakes up and naps with me on the sofa for another hour. If I try to wake her up early she falls apart.

Feeling completely stuck on this one. DS has got wise to the walk in the pram trick and is refusing to go in it. Will be interested in what others say.
