Think I'm having a miscarriage

So I had some brown spotting a week and a half ago, and then again on Thursday. I had an ultrasound on Friday (2 days ago) and baby was fine - I saw the heartbeat. I had a blood HCG on Tuesday which was very high for 8wks + 2 days.

This afternoon, all of a sudden, out of the blue, I started bleeding, bright red blood. The bleeding was quite heavy initially I was soaking a pad per hour but has since tapered off. I'm still bleeding but it's not as heavy. I'm 9 weeks today.

I've had no cramping and only a tiny clot, the size of a nickel when I saw the first blood this afternoon.

I still feel nauseous - I threw up this morning and have been feeling nauseous all day. My boobs are still sore.

I went to ER tonight and they did bloodwork and the doctor has ordered an ultrasound for tomorrow as they finish at 4.30pm. So now I just sit and wait to see what happens...

My friend is coming to stay overnight with me so I'm not alone (my partner lives very far away).

I just feel lost, I don't know what to think. I know most likely it is a miscarriage and I don't want to get my hopes up that it's not. I guess I will know in the next day either way.

I had a m/c with a 8.5-9 week old baby - I think it sounds more likely that you have a subchorionic hemmorhage, especially since you didn't have any clots. I had palm sized clots with my m/c and it was gushy. With a SCH, you can have heavy bleeding (just like you described) but you won't normally see clots. Were you crampy at all? Or was it just bleeding? The fact that your HCG is high and that there were no clots is actually really good news. I will be hoping that your u/s tomorrow shows a nice sweet baby tucked in there.

I read somewhere recently that even with bleeding the chances of a M/c are 50-50 (in other words, not as likely as you might think.) so it may very well be SCH. Hope things will be okay.

I will hope for the best. It feels like on MDC I've read lots and lots of stories about women bleeding and going on to have healthy pregnancies.

I had a MC at 11 weeks that started with red blood. For me, however, my intuition was that the pregnancy was over.

If you feel like it's going to go in that direction, I highly recommend reading some of the MC stories in the Pregnancy and Loss section (you can even search your # of weeks). They helped me immeasurably.

That said, here's looking for a great growing baby for your ultrasound today!!!

P.s. I think symptoms are a GOOD sign!!

Thank you all so much for your support. I'm thinking the worst at this point because I don't want to keep my hopes up for nothing. The bleeding is quite light now, spotting I guess - what I had this morning was darker, old blood.

I still feel sick this morning but my boobs don't feel sore and they feel softer, so I'm thinking that's not a good sign.

My ultrasound is at 10.30am and then I have to go back to ER and wait for results. I'll also have betas to compare as they did bloodwork last night. On Tuesday my HCG was 140,000.

I'll update later with the ultrasound and blood test results.

If you are 7+ weeks pregnant (which I'm guessing you are since I am due at the end of the month and I'm 7w4d today), the blood test results could be stable or fall and still be perfectly normal - it's not uncommon for the placenta to start taking over in the 7-8th week. When the placenta starts taking over, your HCG will start dropping and then once the placenta fully takes over, your HCG will run at a much lower level. So if you get back a number that is quite a big lower or has plateaued, don't freak! It's REALLY normal right now for that to happen, and frankly, I'm surprised that they are putting such emphasis on the numbers right now since they are proven to be pretty inaccurate (for lack of a better term) in measuring pregnancy viablility after the baby can be seen with heartbeat on u/s at 6.5 weeks or so.

Well the news is good - baby is alive and well. I saw it moving and I saw the heartbeat on the ultrasound. I had prepared myself for the baby being dead so when the ultrasound tech showed me the baby alive I started crying - I couldn't believe it. It was amazing.

My HCG level was 140,000 6 days ago (at 8 wks + 2 days) and yesterday at 9 wks the level was 167,700. Apparently a good increase for the timing. My Hemoglobin was 120 which I thought was pretty good too, considering how much blood I lost.

I know there's still a high risk for a miscarriage at this point but the bleeding is light now and I still feel sick. So I'm being cautiously positive.

So now I'm resting and praying. My friends have been amazing. One friend took my kids yesterday, took them to school today and is going to give them dinner and bring them back tonight. My other friend took me to ER last night and then stayed overnight with me. Another friend (with a 5 day old newborn) took me for my ultrasound today. I have amazing friends, I am SO lucky. My family all live in New Zealand and I live in Canada, my DP lives in the US, so I am extra thankful for having such good friends. I don't know what I'd do without them.
