Birthing sling?

Like the one in this video... (this is a video of a homebirth so it is graphic..)

It hangs from the ceiling. Has anyone used one or know where I can find one? Looks really neat.

oh wow that made me cry. I would love to use one of those too...

I have heard of using a woven wrap during labor. I don't have a clue about how one would go about that though. The ladies over at thebabywearer.com might have more info....

My MW had a woven wrap in their bag of tricks. I HATED it. I felt far too huge for the two people holding the other end and felt like I just couldn't relax into it. I'll check the video to see if it's similar.

That looked pretty interesting. I think it is a wrap but, as you said, attached to the ceiling instead of with two women on the ends (in my case). It's still not my thing but it was interesting nonetheless.

I know it was so beautiful. That is what I want for my baby.

I think once I show choose my midwife I will show this video to her and see if we can find a way to do this. I really like the idea of pushing upright like this.

My neighbor was a missionary kid in Brazil and he said that the Indian women would just hang on a tree branch and push. I was always thought this was cool. Letting gravity help.

I think it would be really easy to do. You will just need to find a good support beam and anchor a weight bearing hook. It looks like they are just using a quality sling with a good knot.

I saw another video recently of a UC birth where the woman birthed standing. I'll see if I can find it.

Here it is: scroll down about half way - the still reads Allengeburt / Unassisted Childbirth.

That is so cool! I was way too shaky with my first to even think about standing up (let alone bending down to take the baby) but I think it would have worked with baby #2. Must keep that in mind for baby #3

Oh wow, I loved that video! And it makes me want to have my next baby in a room lit only by a Christmas tree.

I really like the idea of hanging on a wrap like this while pushing. I pushed in a dangling squat, kind of hanging from my DH. I loved that position, but I think this might have actually been more comfortable for me (plus, DH's hands would be free to catch the baby). I also learned recently that in the country my DH's family is from, women traditionally hung a cloth from the ceiling and dangled from it in labor. I wish I'd known before DD was born, or I would have tried that with her!

There are some great ideas here and here (post 34).
