Top teeth are here... ouch!

My daughter is 9 months old, and nurses 5 or 6 times a day, and eats some solids at her own pace. This week she's breaking in her two top teeth, which means she's a bit of a pill, and nobody is getting any sleep.

Nursing feels different now, sorta like a little pinch and somewhat uncomfortable. She isn't biting or anything, she seems to be doing everything she normally does. Will this go away, like it did when I started nursing? Is there anything I can do to make it go away faster? Is this a latch issue?

I really want to make it the full first year (at least), and am totally committed, just wondering what is in store. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and wisdom.

No advice. Sorry. Just know you're not alone although mine doesn't have his through yet. I remember from my first 3. Have you tried lansinoh again just to help your comfort?

Yup, using the lansinoh again, but still really uncomfortable.

Feeling *very* discouraged. She's refusing to nurse more than three or four times during the day, and then once or twice at night. We went to a lactation consultant at the midwife clinic today, and she says the latch is perfect. I don't want to clue the baby into the fact that I'm so uncomfortable, but I'm sure she notices. So discouraged. She's only nine months old, I don't want this to be the beginning of the end.

I found ds always seemed to "clench" when he got new teeth & it would take a few days for us to settle back into a good latch again. It definitely always passed though.

It always passed for us too. every time new teeth came in, there was a period of a few days to a week, I think while they are adjusting to the new shape of their mouth, when there was a little pain.
Hope it feels better soon!

It'll pass When DS gets a new tooth, it always throws his latch off for a little bit, especially when he had his top two teeth come in at the same time. I could feel them scraping on me when he nursed and got really sore. Now I've just figured out when he gets a new tooth he needs to figure out how to 'work' with it.

Hang in there Mama
