I really want some coffee!

I've been very good- I had one glass of wine, before I found out I was pregnant, one cup of coffee after I found out I was pregnant (believe it or not, I'd momentarily forgot I was pregnant) and have really cut down on the sweets. But... the last couple of days, I've been desperately craving for a cup of coffee. When I do eat sweets, this baby gets all crazy hyper, literally bouncing off the walls inside, and I'm not sure coffee would even be a good idea, with the caffeine, even if it was considered okay for pregnant women to drink. What do you Mamas think? To drink, or not to drink just one cup of decaf, to get it out of my system? Or too much risk involved?

I have about a cup of coffee every other day. Perfectly healthy babe in there, at 37 weeks. (However, I didn't drink ANY coffee for the 11 months we were TTC.)

Do what you feel most comfortable doing, but I've been told a cup of day will cause no harm. FWIW, it doesn't make my little girl any more or less active than usual.

I was concerned about caffeine intake as well because I have to have some or I get killer headaches. I wish I could find it, but I read that it is best to not have any but if you need some to have under 120ish mg of caffeine (or a number close to that). In most cases that is 3 cups of coffee/soda.

I always have a cup of coffee in the morning. I think people are a little paranoid about caffiene, 1 cup of normal coffee is fine. Decaf coffee can be made with lots of chemicals so you're probably better off having the caffiene rather than the decaf...

I had a cup of coffee every day up until recently. I had a pot a day habit before pregnancy, and cutting back to one cup seems to have killed my addiction, I have recently been thinking of giving it up altogether.

I do half decaf and half regular. I have to have my coffee. Only time I didn't have it was when it made me throw up with morning sickness.

Most things are fine in moderation...my last prgnancy i stopped drinking coffee and i miscarried; this pregnancy i decided to allow myself a couple small cups in the morning if i so choose..I don't normally drink that much but i think the allowable amount is 4 small cups per day...

I drank coffee with both babes with no problems, in moderation it's fine.

My MW said everything in moderation when I asked about alcohol and caffeine. So, I allow myself either a cup of coffee or a bottle/can of soda on days I want it. *shrugs*

AFAIK, under 300mg of caffeine a day is considered safe. So I don't think a cup of coffee or a pop is going to be nearly enough to cause trouble. I drink a cup of half decaff every morning. (Yeah, I know decaff is weird and gross but full strength makes me jittery...doesn't seem to bother the baby, though).

i avoided coffee in the first tri because i felt nauseated at the thought and smell of it, but once i started wanting it again, i definitely have had some. i drink a cup every morning, pretty much, and i don't feel guilty about it at all.

Drink a cup of coffee. It doesn't even have to be decaf. Everything in moderation, is my motto. I drank coffee all four pregnancies and while breastfeeding. The only time I gave it up was for a few weeks my last pregnancy when it sounded really gross. Luckily, that didn't last very long.

*Currently, however, I only drink it occasionally - but I'm not nursing or pregnant. I drink plenty of green tea and chai, though, so I still get ample amounts of caffeine. I only gave it up/cut back because I can't drink it w/o sugar. I'm okay with caffeine, just not so much sugar in my system.

I drank coffee through my first three pregnancies. Two cup a day limit. The kids are all fine.

I have a severe coffee aversion with this pregnancy but switched to tea. It isn't the same, but I just can't handle coffee right now.

This is what I do too. I also drink coffee while nursing. It didn't affect my first at all.

Well... had a very DELICIOUS cup of coffee earlier, fixed my craving right up!

That being said...

Note to self... coffee makes THIS baby crazy hyper.

Note to self... when this baby gets active, I get Braxton Hicks.

Note to self... when this baby gets crazy hyper, I get lots of Braxton Hicks and have a very uncomfortable morning.

Note to self... perhaps I'll just stick with the coffee ice cream next time.

Try a coffee that has been decaffeinated using water. It's a little more expensive, but quite easy to find these days. If it's been done with that method it will clearly say so on the tin/bag. It has a little caffeine (all decaf does) but it it is a far superior cup(tastewise, certainly) to your average solvent decaf coffee.

Just be careful. I used to drink coffee all day long and it had to effect on me. Now if I have a cup after noon, I am up until 2am!!

I have a coffee nearly every morning (freshly ground, espresso) which is strong so I limit myself to the one, I actually stopped drinking it in the first tri and begun drinking it again after 14 weeks, having one now actually, there's nothing wrong with a cup of coffee, the problems only exist when there is excessive caffiene intake. I also drink fairly strong teas/chais, one in the afternoon and one at night, they both contain small amounts of caffiene.

I drank 1-2 cups through most of pregnancy. Took a few weeks off during the 1st trimester because of sensitive stomach and recently I've cut back to 1 cup max since it makes this baby hyper! I've also been known to have a beer or a glass of wine. Again, not during the 1st trimester but I don't worry about it after that so long as it's a once in a while thing.
