I have some cloth wipes and want to use them for napkins....

I have some really nice cloth wipes and they are in great condition. The ones I am considering were used very little bcs dd was ec'd and we just didn't need them much. When they were used they were wet with just water and then thrown in a hot water wash.
These wipes are the perfect size for napkins for my kids lunches. They would work great but....
Are they sanitary? Is it just a gross idea?
Would you do it? If not what else would you do with these? Dh will not go family cloth and I just don't want to waste them. Don't want to sell them now either.

I think it's fine. I frequntly grab from the butt-wipes pile to wipe noses and mouths...

And even if DH won't do family cloth, you can do it! I started two weeks ago and just did it myself for pee's. I didn't even tell him.

I would totally use them. I'm on the fence about using clean diaper wipes to wipe faces (I do it sometimes, but wonder how sanitary it is). But in your situation, where they will be washed often and not used as diaper wipes again, I would have absolutely no problem with it.

It's Fine

I add stuff to my diapers to make it a full load. I regularly add kitchen laundry like dish cloths and dish towels.

Intuitively, it seems wrong. However, I can't see anything being able to survive a trip through the washer with the diapers. I wash at 95 C (over 200 F), the cycle has two washes and takes over two hours to run, and I add borax. In six and a half years I've never had to strip my diapers. I know they're coming out super clean and this way my kitchen laundry is super clean too.

Also, if it makes you feel any better, it doesn't really matter if all the bacteria isn't gone from the wipes to be napkins. I imagine that it is, but my understanding is that the normal bacteria from your own gut can't make you sick, and likely, your whole family has been colonized by the same bacteria.

This is why you can wash towels used to dry bums and underwear in cold water with other clothing and household laundry and not get sick even though the bacteria can cross contaminate other things in a cold wash.
