NIP: Toddler style?

millie is terrorizing the house, so i just have a few seconds. firstly, that i can be here because she was a preemie and it took ~6 wks to get her to the breast.

second, hth do i NIP? she's walking (running) and is so darn squirmy that there's no possible way to be as discreet as i'd like to be. i nursed natalie in public until the very end of our nursing relationship (26.5 mos) and she would settle in and nurse. millie wants to do gymnastics, pop off and squeal, spit milk, etc. any one have any tips? i'm not usually the type to run off to my car to nurse, but lately that's where we end up because i don't want to show my wares to everyone in the grocery store.

The sling helps my little wiggle worm settle down and focus on nursing. Otherwise, it's the car for use as well.

I too find it easier to use the wrap or mei tei because dd2 is just too curious. and for me its uncomfortable if she pops on and off or worse thinks my nipple is made of rubber and decides to turn her head 180 degrees without unlatching. Go go gadget boob!

lmao @ go go gadget boob!

i'd love to sling, but i had neck surgery in june and it's just not comfy for me. plus, amelia sorta hates the sling. she's definitely a free-ranger. thanks for the suggestions, though! it's nice to see some more of the september mamas over here celebrating one year bf!

Just a thought-have you tried a nursing necklace or something else along those lines? My dd2 likes to pinch my face, boob, lips, arm etc. But will settle down if I am wearing a necklace. It could give you lo something interesting to focus on while nursing (other than the boob obviously)

I know what you mean about making it to 1 year. I was all happy when I realized I could now officially post here.

congrats, bellabaz! i lurked on sept ddc and intro'ed on the thread over on LWAB. i was due october, but i was a preterm labor risk so i lurked aug and sept! it was tough getting her to nurse, but i was supported by a wonderful dh and family and we made it.

i totally forgot about the nursing necklace. i'll give that a try. also, i'm going to go look up some one shoulder ties/ holds with the sling and see if they are comfortable. maybe we can do a sitting on the hip and leaning over to nurse hold?

I don't know if she will go for this but what about one of those nursing covers? My mom got a pattern for it and is making me one (yes for my 2yo lol) because she (now) likes being covered up to nurse. I am excited for it to be finished lol.

If I am wearing a baggie shirt and we are home she will pull the shirt over her entire body!

Congrats! That is wonderful...isn't it the best, and so worth all the hard work?

My little one is almost 12 months, and it has been almost impossible to NIP for a few months because she is so distractable. Her attention span put an end to NIP long before my modesty did.

My solution is to wear her in the Ergo with the hood up. Then I can sort-of discreetly nurse her and the hood blocks out most of the distraction, and I think being snuggly and a bit restrained helps her focus too. I also usually have to walk around a bit sometimes to get her to calm down if we are somewhere really fun and exciting. I usually have to duck out of a gathering, or arrive early and pace a bit in the parking lot with her in the Ergo to be sure she nurses. Otherwise she would be too distracted.

Good luck!
