Here's a baby name challenge! Middle names that go with 'Tup'.

I love the name Tup but cannot think of anything that goes with it for a middle name.

Any ideas? Our last name is pretty 'neutral' and very common. Two syllables.

How are you pronouncing Tup? Does it rhyme with cup or rhyme with loop?

Also, boy or girl name? Tup is short for Tupak in Aztec but as a boy's name.

Is Tup a nickname for something? Where did you come up with it? That might help with inspiration. Also agree with the previous two posters about how it is pronounced and if it's for a boy or a girl.

(It makes me think of tupperware. Sorry, but it does).

I guess with such an untraditional first name, I would go with a very normal middle name so the child can use that if he or she wants to.

I was thinking that too...

Edmund
Desmond
Carson
etc. just not the ending sound of your last name

It seems masculine to me, so I am having a hard time with the girl names

Estelle?
Adelaide?
Celeste?

yeah, sorry. I think I did a better job with the boys names
And I was assuming it rhymes with "cup"

Tup is a nickname for Thomas. Rhymes with 'cup'. Boy.

What about calling the baby Thomas Upton Lastname and using Tup as his nickname?

Upton Sinclair is a pretty awesome writer, muckraker, and champion of social justice in the early decades of the 20th century, a worthy namesake or inspiration.

That would be my solution.

What a cute idea. Unfortunately dh and I are sticklers about naming our kid what we will actually be calling them. Both of our other kids are named 'nicknames' instead of the name it is derived from.

This name may end up by the wayside if we can't think of a single middle name that would flow with it (and thus far we have not).

Henry?
Frances?

It seems like it needs an older style name...
To my ear, it needs another short, percussive sound after it, so another nickname:
Tup Tom
Tup Dan
Tup Don
Tup Todd
Tup John
Tup Gill
Tup Khan
Tup Stan
Tup Jake (but he'd get called Cupcake for sure with that)
What about just Tup Lastname? Or just a middle initial Tup X. Lastname?

oh boy.

just so you are aware...

tup (tuppence) is a euphemism for vagina.

yeah... im in the same boat with the others that all I can think of is Tupperware.

To the point that i seriously thought, in response to your title... Erware?

And further oh boy...

"tup" means to mount (as in have sex with), specifically pertaining to sheep. It's the second thing you find when googling the word. And you definitely encounter it in English class with Shakespeare. (Othello Act 1 Sc.1 "Even now, now, very now, an old black ram/Is tupping your white ewe."

I would not do this to a child. Under any circumstances.

However, in terms of middle names, I don't believe the middle must "go with" the first, since hardly anyone will know or use it anyway. How about choosing the name of a loved relative or respected ancestor?

I hate to throw a wrench into a favorite name, especially since you didn't ask for opinions. However, I do think it might be a difficult name given its meaning.

That said, here are a few middle names that you may like:

Tup Oliver (Johnson)
Tup Alexander (Johnson)
Tup Frederick (Johnson)

Crap. I'd never heard any of that. I knew a guy named Tup and I'd never heard anyone make fun of the name.

It's taken us nearly 6 months to arrive at a single boy name we were seriously considering.

That's a pickle. We have a hard time with girl names. Aren't we the lucky two with all girls then...

can you change it slightly then?

Tip
Top
Tap
Rup

you get the idea.

What was it you both like about the name, maybe if you can hone in on that you can find a similar one?

Tup Alexander flows well.

I like it better with 2 Ts: Tupp

Tup Patrick
Tup Peyton
Tup Theodore
Tup Parker
Tup Silas
