pees in potty, but poops in panties!! HELP!!

I really am not sure what to do anout this. My youngest dd turned 2 in June. We started potty training around when she turned two, bc she seemed ready. She took her diaper off constantly-especially if she peed or pooped. She told me peepee. But she didnt seem interested. She didnt't seem to care. This was so strange to me bc dd1 was using the potty with no accidents at 17 months. and ds was at about 21 months. But I do know all children are different. After a few days she decided she wanted to wear a diaper-so I decided it wasn't time.

Fast forward a few months to August and she decides she wants to go pee on the potty-she was weraing a diaper and grabbing herself and telling me. We didnt make it fast enough. But then i decided i should put her in panties. She has been ever since. And she has done so well. It took her a few days to poop in the potty though.

Now she will have accidents sometimes (not often with pee). She never tells me when she has to poop either. I do not know what to do. She always poops in her panties. And walks around with it-until I realize or her siblings realize and tell me. What do I do?? The only thing I have tried is when she does it I tell her yuck that poop goes in the potty. And we go to the bathroom (usually the poop is firm enough to roll right out into the toilet-so I tell her again poop goes in the potty as I dump it), I sit her on the potty and then we clean her off.

I actually have the opposite problem (will poop in potty, but not pee). One suggestion that comes to mind is to take note of whether or not there is a pattern and try to catch her when you know it's likely to happen. My son has typical times of days that he poops and it's pretty noticeable (he goes to a private place to do it... or he did when he was in diapers), maybe the other kids can help you be on the lookout for poop behavior?

good luck!

DS is 28 months has been peeing in the potty since June. He would wait for a diaper at bedtime or naptime to poop. But recently he started pooping in his unders! Totally a huge mess to clean up. So...last night I told him when he woke up he would go to the bathroom and poop in the potty, because that's what it's time to do. In the morning, we go poop! This morning he said he didn't have to poop right when we woke up, so I let him have some juice and cereal and play for a little bit. Then when he had to pee, I reminded him it was morning and that meant he had to try and poop on the potty too.

...And it worked!!! Okay, so it's only been one day, but hopefully the dancing, clapping, and wahoo-ing will be fresh in his mind tomorrow morning and we'll have a repeat performance.

Thanks for the replies. I am excited to say that this morning she just came to me adn told me "poopoo" and we went to the bathroom. and SHE POOPED IN THE POTTY!! I praised her for it. Hopefully she will keep it up.

I am going to keep note of when she goes poop so maybe I can remind her and avoid accidents.

dd2 is having a hard time today! She is pooping a couple times today and not telling me until has gone in her panties. It is driving me nuts. I am staying calm and Keep tellin gher to please tell me before and that it goes in the potty, etc. Is it ok to put her in a diaper and tell her when she is ready to poop in the potty like a big girl to let me know and she can wear her big girl panties again? (or something of the like)

Well, jenhill,
I don't have any advice for you, but we are in the same boat. DD PLed the week of Thanksgiving and since about February has pooped almost exclusively in her underpants. She NEVER has pee accidents, never wet sheets. Never poop away from home except on vacation. But EVERY TIME SHE POOPS ITS IN HER PANTS.
It's driving me nuts! She's over 3 1/2 and very verbal. She just gets busy and doesn't want to stop and poop.
The only thing that has helped at all is coconut oil. She has been doing like your little one and not even telling us afterwards, so she is irritated. Coconut oil seems to help with redness, but she hates it. And when she poops in her pants, I remind her that it's a shame that we have to use the CO, but as long as she poops in her pants instead of the potty we will have to use CO. Since beginning the coconut oil she has pooped a few times in the potty with nothing but a "racing stripe" in her undies.
I felt like to coconut oil was punishment at first, but it really isn't. If she keeps pooping in her pants and smooshing it into her vagina, I can either put coconut oil (or something else) when I clean her or she'll get a nasty infection. Real life cause and effect. Obviously, I'm not going to let her "choose" a vaginal infection, so CO it is.
She such a big girl in so many ways, but this is maddening.
