Good Quality Shoes for AFO's

I have had it with Answer2 shoes for DS (4). He is on his second pair this year and already needs new ones. The current pair he has now is wearing out at the toe and the tread is coming off the bottom of the shoe that he has his brace. He has only had this pair since mid-July. He only wears an AFO on one leg. so if I go with shoes that the insoles aren't removanle, then I have to get 2 pairs instead of one.

Does any one have any good suggestions? Any good experiences with Keeping Pace?

This is so frustrating, since these are not cheap shoes.

It sounds like he isn't or isn't able to pick up his feet. Is that what is happening?

Unfortunately, I think whatever shoe you get this is going to happen. But Answer 2 are expensive. I know, Gabrielle wears them.

Other brands to try for braces are:

New Balance
Stride Rite
Buster Brown (I believe they come extra wide and wides).
Hatchbacks (but they don't have much to choose from and are expensive).

Gabrielle use to have New Balance and they were awesome. She currently has the Answer 2 and a pair of Stride Rites. She wears braces on both feet.

My son wear braces on both feet. We buy stride rite. Most of thier shoes have removeable insoles. I have never had to buy more then 2 pairs and then only because his feet grow not because they are wearing out the shoes. we have a strite rite outlet by us so i dont pay full price for the shoes

Sorry for the late response. Yes, DS is not able to competely pick up his left foot and toe walks. He ahs tight achilles tendons and hamstrings.

I was wondering about Hatchbacks. Do the insoles come out? He actually only wears one brace.

Thanks for the responses!

I am not sure. Email or call them to find out.

DS got AFOs a few months ago and we went with a pair of New Balance shoes. They work great. We take the insoles out and they fit perfect! He's pretty rough on shoes anyways, but they're holding up well.

DS1 wore smo's (they come ankle high, not all the way up) and we had great luck with Stride Rite and Skechers. He still drags his feet some while walking and although he has pretty much outgrown Stride Rite now he still tends to end up in Skechers. They are nice and wide, and the insole comes out pretty well if needed.
