What do you have for a rocking chair?

My DH and i are frustrated right now. We had a second hand glider but it made a clinking when you reached a certain point in the rocking motion. Needless to say it drove us both batnuts. We figured what the hey and just spent 300$ on a new one from babies r us. We spent an hour and a half putting it together to find out it makes the same sound/sensation!!! GAH! I looked it up and apparently it is common for gliders to do this. I am going to call the store tomorrow to see what can be done but if they can't fix it for us we are returning it and getting something that ISN'T a glider. So what do you guys have? Do you like what you have? My mom has a regular old wooden rocker but the arms are so high that the baby donks her head on it when she is nursing on the boppy so i know something like that wouldn't work.

We've got a glider that goes "ERRRRK!" when you rock too far back. I remember rocking DD only to have her startled awake by the dang noise. No matter how hard I tried, it would pop up unannounced.

I'm worried about DD tipping the glider over now, actually. She's starting to climb and the thing falls forward if it gets too front heavy.

We don't/have never had a glider or rocker. I guess I would have taken either if money had permitted, but it didn't and we've done fine without.

I had one of those with my first two. i have missed it this time! it was awesome, a rocker and a recliner, and comfy to boot with two big padded arms.

I used a birth ball/yoga ball with my middle daughter! We had a regular rocker in the living room (used a pillow on the arm) but the ball in her bedroom.

We have an exercise ball. Works wonders and is cheap.

We have a Hauck brand glider, the metal version, (this one in red) The cover is fake leather which I find tacky, and the metal is less cozy than wood, but I so don't care because I love it so much! We got it new on Ebay. I live in Germany but I just did a quick search and it looks like this brand is available in the US too. It cost us around $300 and was worth every penny. It makes no noises at all and is soooooo comfy. My only complaint (and I've heard other gliders have this unfortunate feature too) is that the bottom glider mechanism part is fully exposed and looks like a potential baby hand and finger muncher. Our DS is on the verge of crawling so we need to get this taken care of fast. I'm thinking of sewing some sort of dustruffle type cover for the bottom part.

Anyway, DH and I love love love this glider and are so happy we invested in it and got this particular one.

An old black lazyboy recliner that we got off Freecycle when I had a broken ankle that had to be elevated over my heart 10 hours a day. The stuffing is coming out and the arm rests are now more tape than leather, but it rocks nicely and quietly and when baby falls asleep I can lie back and go to sleep too.

Used an exercise ball exclusively for the first few months- I'm sure it was great for my core strength and DD loved it...but as she grew I would be worn out if I bounced with her longer than 5 minutes...and a couple times when I was tired I started to doze and almost slipped off.

Then we borrowed a used rocking chair- But the arms are not padded, and the seat was only barely padded and pretty uncomfortable and the springs would creak

So we finally sprung for a glider. I went to Babies R Us and sat in every glider in the store. Decided that I really did prefer the more expensive Dutalier brand, because the seat back was higher and supported my head better, and it just was softer and more comfortable than the others I tried.

However, I couldn't afford the prices so I went home, searched online for deals, and got a Dutalier gilder for 60% off from Amazon with free shipping.

I recommend sitting in all of the ones at the store to see if the noise is always an issue. I hope you find what you're looking for.

i have a old-school wooden rocking chair and it SUCKS!!!!!! i hate it, i want it out. it is so uncomfortable even to sit in it briefly (i would never do a long-nursing session in it or choose to sit there voluntarily) and the kid's head does always hit the wooden arm.
i would kill for a nice reclining glider. i hate the way they look but my friend has one and not only do i love gliding but i have inadvertantly put my sleep-fighting babe asleep in it without even trying!
i was going to hold off getting one since dd is 12 months now and i've wasted so much time with that rocker but we've been having sleep issues since she's had a stomach virus and all she wants to do to fall asleep is be held and all i want to do is get the he*l outta that rocking chair!

This has been the case with every glider I've seen.. though I'm not sure the bottom of a rocking chair is any safer.

We have a huge wooden rocker. I got it when DD1 was a baby. It's big enough that I can comfortably sit in the lotus position in it, and I am not a small person. It's unpadded, but has a lumbar curve to the spines on the back, and a curved bottom, so it's still very comfortable. It was ~$300, which isn't too expensive, comparatively speaking, but is the most I've ever spent on a piece of furniture.
Unfortunately, it takes up a lot of floor space, and we don't really have any to spare. I keep thinking I need to get rid of it for the floorspace, but I just love it. (I love it for myself- never got much use out of it with the kiddos, they preferred side-lying.)

We've had the same glider for almost 5 years now. It makes zero noise when gliding in it and it still looks brand new. My mom bought it from jcp.com. http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx...=searchresults

We don't have it yet, as I'm not even pregnant yet, but this is the one I'm lusting over. I have a lot of 'must haves' for our chair, and this one seems to fit them all- it's got soft arms, no pieces to pinch fingers, it's comfortable on my back, I can pull my legs up and sit cross legged...

Oooooh, that one looks deluxe, and it's not even expensive! And I love that there's no finger-eaters underneath it.
I am really not pleased with the way most gliders have that unfortunate unsafe feature. In a way it really makes no sense, seeing as they're sold mostly for babies and kids. You'd think someone would have redesigned that by now. My mom suggested stuffing some fabric or something in between the slats so that it cannot be moved when not in use (kind of like the brake wedges people sometimes use under tires when a car is parked on a hill). But I fear I or DH would forget just one time and then an accident would occur. If anyone has a solution for this please do share, b/c besides that one feature, I love our glider!!!!

I'm sure there's some way to fashion a cover for the bottom part, sort of like a bedskirt, you know? It obviously wouldn't completely protect fingers if they were determined, but it would help to remind them to stay away. Out of sight, out of mind.

We have an old school type wooden rocker. It was my Mothers. It makes creaky type sounds when rocking, but doesn't bother us.
I never thought that I would want a glider type, but now I do. I love to rock DD to sleep and then just stay in that position with her, but a little recline would be nice. When we get a bigger place, glider it is!

I have a really cheesy looking chrome and vinyl rocking chair. It matches the chrome, vinyl and formica kitchen table sets from the '50s. It is very comfy, and works great for nursing for me. I only paid $40 for it (used).

I don't have one, but my grandma used to have a very pretty old fashioned wood rocker, very sturdy. I was tempted to buy a glider, but after reading this I doubt it, lol.

we have a bentwood, shermag glider, and a recliner. The bentwood is quiet, but has a very deep rock. The glider does squeek, but it the most comfy and the easiset to rock.

The rocking glider I never enjoyed, but it's dh's favorite.
