2011 IBCLC exam - Page 2

Hi all,

Starting to get excited about this.  I am qualifying through pathway 2.  I am getting my MA in Maternal Child Health:Lactation Studies through Union.  I have to finish my master's thesis, and complete a few courses and I'll be done.  I am taking A&P this semester, infant growth, and nutrition.  Oh, and I am doing my internship with WIC.  I will be done by May and then I will spend the rest of the summer studying for the exam.  I was thinking about taking a workshop to prep but I don't know if I can afford it.

I suggest taking a class on how to take the test...like a review of some sort...right before the exam. That helped me sooo much. The test is tricky....the questions are made to trick you...and remember that IBCLC is a global exam....so you need to learn to respond to the exam...with a open mind set. Considering different cultures. just a fyi!

Is that study group on yahoo still going through?  I applied several weeks ago, but never got accepted and it doens't look like there's been any activity since Nov.

Is anyone interested in starting an active study group online?  i'm building a weekly study plan for myself right now, and would love to share it and have buddies to study along with.

Hello

I have a question if I may :)  I plan on taking the exam on July 25th 2011 IF I meet the deadline, which is a bit confusing to me.

On the IBLCE website it mentions the first postmark date being on February 28, 2011.  Is that the day that you must have completed the 45 ceu course by? Because somewhere it seemed like January 25th, 2011 was a date.  I plan on using Pathway 1 since I have been a RN in a NICU in California for over 20 years.  I work daily with a world renowned breastfeeding expert Kittie Frantz.  I finish my CLE class on February 2nd 2011.  I am going to email the IBLCE tonight and try to call them tommorow to verify the date.

If anyone can help me clarify this please email me.  I would also like to be a part of an active study group.  I have applied for the yahoo group and am awaiting approval.

Thanks

Melissa

That first postmark date is just the first (of three) deadlines.  If you've got the hours completed, you'll save a significant amount of $$ by filing your application before that date.  The second date is March 31, where the fee is a bit higher than the Feb date, and then the third (and final, must have all requirements completed by) date is April 30, where the fee is the highest.

I'm not sure what's going on with the yahoo group, but I still haven't gotten a response, so I've started a new group.  It's on facebook (there was a pretty active group of candidates last year on facebook, so I thought it would work well again)  If you're interested, please join!  I'm planning to post weekly study topic(s) and maybe if we get enough people we can plan a weekly chat.

I was on the yahoo group last year, it was dead when I joined in late 2009 and then as the test date drew closer, more and more posts happened. I'd imagine by now there would be some posts (I'm no longer a member), it was helpful, and I managed to snag a 2010 cram study book from someone that was very helpful off there. Maybe the mod is just gone now? headscratch.gif

Hi Knittin - I just sent you a request for the FB group.  Thanks!

Hello

I just joined your new group.  I am planning on taking the IBCLE exam in July as well :)  I think I have purchased knitting patterns from you in the past when my daughter was born about 6 years ago.

Looking forward to the studying :)

mecry.gifJust wanted to have a little pity party for myself..I found out about a job opening that is coming this summer that I would be qualified for and would LOVE..BUT I had to let my IBCLC license lapse due to our health issues and financial problems, especially my husbands brain tumor treatment and care. greensad.gif This job would enable him to be able to continue his treatment full time and give us the health insurance we will need while he recovers.

I am taking the exam this year, and will be doing the Lcerps through health elearning, but the issue is I won't know until late October! OH, how I wish the board would catch up with the rest of the world, where you can get the results in weeks or even days! I never thought I'd lose a wonderful job with benefits over it.

Anyway, again, just to vent and let that out...sigh...I now return to regular work mode...

What a shame!  I hope that you're able to figure something else out that will work for your family ((hugs)))

FWIW, I've read recently that they're looking at going to computer testing, which would likely mean that the results would be within days :)

I requested to be added to your Facebook group. Thanks!

I'm taking the Marie Biancuzzo cram course and picture perfect in Atlanta March 30-April 1, 2011.  Anyone else?  I'd love to find a hotel room mate to share the expenses!

I'm in Atlanta but I can't take that workshop.  I will be at the NWGA BFC Conference on March 30th tho... anyone else?  You get 6 ed hours there.  Diana West is the speaker.  :)

I joined the FB group too!  :)  I'm stoked to be sitting for the exam much earlier than I thought I could!!!  :)

I am in Louisiana and will be sitting on July 25th in Jackson, MS.  I am looking for a land study group and an online one.

Anybody attend Marie Biancuzzo's test prep?  I'm here in MD and I just finished the three day course.  It's was decent.  Lots of prep prior though...

I was hoping to be able to attend a study group, but her locations are too far away for me to travel.

If anyone of you has taken the IBCLE exam could you let us know how many hours the exam is? What are the challenges? What should we focus on pictures?

Is enervation and muscles a must? Any personal experience is welcome. Thanks  Rmadhavapeddi

Was this course informative? Do you feel confident after the course? I know it all depends on how much we study but from your personal experience how was it?

Thanks
