My 10-month old is still exclusively breastfed, straight from the breast. He's never had any bottles or any pacifiers. I breastfeed him about every 1.5 hours during the day and several times during the night (we co-sleep). Today, he bit me. Ouch! Anyone been through this? I don't want to wean just yet. Help!

Ouch, that hurts. I have to be honest and I'm quite embarrassed in a way but I smacked my oldest when she bit me at 7 1/2 months. It was pure reflex, it hurt SO bad. I smacked her bare thigh, but, it worked. She never once bit me again.

I tried being more calm with my next ones but I think it's hard with that raw pain. I tended to yell No, take them off and not nurse again for like 10 minutes or so. I think I even put them down. I really wanted them to know it wasn't okay.

Thank you for your quick reply! When he bit me, I said, "Ow" He stopped and looked like he was perplexed and was about to cry. I picked him up and comforted him. The next time he bit me, I said, "Ow" again and got up. He wanted to nurse some more, so I let him nurse some more. I just don't want him to cry. He doesn't want to hurt me on purpose. This I know because he accidentally pulled my hair (my hair got tangled in his little fingers) and I said, "OW!" and he started to cry. So ever since, I've tried to be calm in my ow.
