Has anyone had Placenta Accreta?

I had an appt with my OB yesterday (first with him and we also had an ultrasound) and everything went well. I wanted to ask him about my last delivery and some complications that came up during it. One was I had a LEEP done 16 years ago after the birth of my son and found out I had scar tissue when I went to deliver my daughter 9 years ago. I am hoping that will not be a problem this time around, and he said he can't say for sure but he has seen patients not have a problem. The other was what bring me here.

I had the issue where the placenta attached to my uterus and I could not deliver it (Placenta Accreta). Thankfully the dr delivering her was able to manually work it loose without me needing surgery or complications later. I was worried that this may happen again and confirmed that once you have had any problems with your placenta the risk goes up with each pregnancy. Now that has me worried. Has anyone else had issues like this and what were the outcomes? I plan to ask if it is worth the risk to have a vaginal delivery or if a c-section would be best to avoid any problems.

I don't think I had that condition exactly, but after the birth of my first DS, I had retained placenta. I wound up with a D&C about four days afterward, to deal with the fragments that weren't passing on their own.

Apparently there was scarring. A year and a half later on a second trimester ultrasound with DD1, we saw that I had a uterine synechiae

that was keeping DD1 from having access to the full size of my uterus. Anyway, we discussed risks of preterm delivery and a higher likelihood of breech presentation. As it turned out, we wound up with a c-section after a prolonged pushing phase-- at the time, I was told she wasn't descending, and the implication was made that it was because of the scarring but I've come to believe that was a manipulative tactic, not the truth.

Then I switched health care providers.

Interestingly, with my next pregnancy, I conceived twins, and they went to term, and there was no sign of a synechia on any of the ultrasounds. I wound up having a repeat c-section because of DS2 being transverse and a few other reasons, but everybody involved was clear that the scarring played no role in the decision.

i know someone who had it, and she had a very complicated caesarean with a large vertical incision. she ended up having her tubes tied because it was deemed unsafe for her to carry another pregnancy (it was her third). so, not really the same situation as yours. i hope your pg and delivery go well it sounds like they did a good job removing the placenta without surgery, so i'd think positively and hope for the best. good luck!

I have a friend who had it with her first. Went on to have a vaginal delivery and no problems with her second. Not sure how severe it was the first time around--I'm not sure they diagnosed it right after labor--it was when she was still bleeding well beyond the normal lochia phase that she went in for a d&c and it was diagnosed.

I had a friend who, after having had two C-sections, had placenta precreta during her third pregnancy - a much more severe version of placenta accreta. She gave birth by cesarian for her third and died a day later of severe hemorrhaging.
