Too many Cheerios - Page 2

we premade a bunch of whole wheat, maple syrup- sweetened small-sized pancakes and frozen some and put some in a container in the fridge. It is so easy to either pop a couple in the microwave or offer them to my dd cold (which she likes even more). Add some apple or pear slices and you're good to go.

Can you pm me the recipe? This sounds yummy!!

I do the same thing with my 19 month old who loves waking up at the butt crack of dawn. Cheerios and some Yo Gabba Gabba if my insomnia has been particularly bad.

I think cereal's fine every day if he doesn't mind! What we have given DD is yogurt...almost every single day for years, lol. It's what she wants and the days she wants something different like eggs or pancakes or something, I make them.
Yogurt is great and I have to admit, we give her yo baby yogurt and that's even easier.

Last year on the days that dd had preschool twice a week she was awful in the morning and would not sit down for breakfast. So what I began to do was give her and ds either frozen mini organic waffles or mini organic pancakes (I began making them myself and freezing them to save money). They don't eat them with syrup so it is not messy and could eat them in the family room while we got ready to go or in the car. Many mornings we also did dry Cheerios mixed with raisins in a snack container. I was not too worried because ds would usually eat something else after we dropped off dd and dd would have a healthy snack that I packed her an hour after she was dropped off. Luckily so far this year she is good about sitting down for breakfast before preschool. Don't worry about the Cheerios, we eat them a lot in our house.

I'm pregnant and my 2 year old is sitting on the couch watching TV and eating dry Cheerios right now. I understand

I know its not popular but we do cold ceral in the mornings w/ milk and sometimes a banana or something. IMO cereal is not the nasty evil thing some folks around here make it out to be and I'm just not a morning person and simply not willing to get up and make breakfast every or even most mornings!!

Cheerios are better than many toddler snack alternatives. We do the private label organic from Whole Foods. They have one gram of sugar per cup which I am more than comfortable. (my mom made me compare EVERY cereal and snack package to cheerios when I was a kid and "explain" the higher sugar content)

Personally I would pass on the Cheerios because they have TSP in them.

we do cheerios around here quite a bit. we also make up big batches of pancakes ahead of time. just pop them in the toaster and it's a quick and easy breakfast/snack. the kids don't do syrup on them, so veyr little mess.

I try to avoid cold cereals and pretty much believe that they are all unhealthy, even the "healthy" ones...but that being said, sometimes they really come in handy. I have gotten several bags of the Arrowhead Mills puffed grains, we have puffed corn, kamut and brown rice in the pantry right now, and that's all they are, there's only 1 ingredient (it's organic too). My toddler loves to snack on them. I try to keep them for just out of the house snacks, because sometimes i need that convenience. For mornings, I'm sure you've already gotten a lot of ideas, but i agree that fruit is a really simple one. You could cut some grapes, peaches, melon, oranges, etc up at night so it's ready in the morning, or even do a big batch on the weekends. Homemade granola is a great snack (I'm making this recipe right now). yogurt, smoothie, or juice popsicles? cubed cheese could be prepared the night before too. or hard boiled eggs. toast is quick in the morning. HTH.

I would just rotate different dry cereals, with a cup of something to drink.

I'm also really glad to find out that I'm not the only mom who has a rough time in the morning sometimes!

Oh I totally understand! With the new baby (and during the barf fest of my pregnancy) 'breakfast' around here for the toddler took on the look of 'here, munch on this and watch Kipper while mommy tries to rest'.

She's still growing and thriving, no worries!

I always look at it like we're switching snack and bfast, yk? She has a 'snack' when she wakes up (boiled egg, granola, whatever) and then when I'm functional she has a breakfast (eggie w/salsa, bacon, pancakes).

It all evens out in the wash, no worries!

I threw up the whole time I was pregnant with DS. DD ate Cheerios or granola in the morning with milk in a sippy. Once a week or so, DH would bake a banana bread with all sorts of good healthy stuff mixed in, so some mornings she would have a slice of that.

I agree with whoever said that sometimes kids (and adults!) just aren't ready for breakfast that early in the morning.

If my kids had their druthers, they wouldn't eat AT ALL until 11:00 a.m. I have to beg them to eat something before school and so we will frequently have something very small (like Joe's O's).

A big one around here (that's not too messy to eat at the table) is peanut butter and bananas on toast. Too messy for the family, room, though...

We do cheese. You know I thought I was horrible for not being able to pull it together the first hour or so and have always felt so guilty about it!
I turn on cartoons but she rarely watches, plays instead and put some cheese on a plate and maybe a slice of turkey or something. I am so relieved after reading this thread.

I totally understand and can commiserate on the early morning I can't function of early pregnancy (and later too). Im still having morning sickness issues at 20 weeks, before 12 weeks I was lucky to be functional by noon.. now its around 7-8 if Im feeling bad when I wake up. Things that work for my girls (they are ages 22 months and 3 1/2):
Motts fruit snacks (yea I know not the healthiest but if it saves me from having to drag myself out of bed and get sick 4 times before reaching the kitchen Ill ignore it)
Home made graham crackers where I can control the sugar content (I only make these when Im feeling up to it)
cheese chunks/crackers
Cut up fruit, my youngest loves banannas
Cut up veggies
When I was really bad I would made half PB& J sandwiches when I could and keep a bunch in the fridge. When I couldn't bring myself to cook I at least have them in the fridge with a piece of fruit and i didn't feel like mommy horrible
Also when I was horrible and my hubby was gone training for 4 weeks i got some gerber snacks for my youngest to eat. Not the healthiest thing again but it got me through when I needed it to. I also got some organic granola bars from the store for my oldest. Sometimes my oldest would eat leftovers from dinner when I couldn't get myself moving in the morning.

Trust me, it might not be ideal but your baby will be fine eating cherrios every morning. Pregnancy is a killer at times, you don't need the extra stress of stressing over every little thing you do with your older child. There are lot worse things you could be feeding your child. When I felt bad about what they ate for the day I reminded myself at least they weren't eating candy and drinking Hi C, what they had might not been something to write home about but it was reasonably healthy and gave them some good stuff to grow on.
