What kinds of foods can I feed him to increase his fat intake? He won't eat avocado. But what else can I make him?

He's breastfed, but very interested in solids.

Well, you could cook everything he eats in coconut oil, that would add good fats. What about fish, will he eat salmon?

I used to put Udo's Oil in DS's smoothie's. Having said that you could probably hide avocado in a smoothie too if you were more into whole food. The Super Baby Food book has lots of ideas for "balls" made of various nutritious things. I can't remember how old you introduce nuts/seeds, but these can be used to form the balls.

cheese
cream cheese
full fat yogurt
some people are comfortable with some nut butters (spread thinly on something like crackers) around a year- I gave ds almond butter and cashew butter at that age

At 11mo I fed my DD pretty much everything that I ate.. Veggies, meat, cheese, bread, fruit, whatever really. I eat pretty much all organic and healthy food, so it's pretty easy for me to break off a bit of my meal and feed her. Organic meat, cheese, nut butters, olive oil, coconut oil, eggs, etc are all good sources of fat for an 11mo. Good luck!

Cottage cheese
Hummus drizzled with olive oil
Someone already mentioned full fat yogurt, but that was always one of my kids' favorites - you can also do plain whole milk yogurt mixed with a little unsweetened applesauce. Yum!

scrambled egg yolks
no whites though!

i just try to add olive oil to anything i can. coat beans with it, i make a balsamic vinaigrette for berries to coat, cook eggs (we have always done yolks too..in moderation..no history of allergies) in olive oil.
ditto on the coconut milk...they even make a coconut milk drink now....
for sure dairy.
we do peanut butter.
muffins with eggs and oil.
on an interesting note, my friend was worried about the lack of fats in her babes diet so she started giving him chocolate wafer cookies. but she's cute.

p.s. mine also won't eat avocado (after i had accidentally fed her a rancid one) and i'm pretty bummed b/c it's such a great food. i just keep offering it though. last night she actually ate a piece but then almost threw up....heroically keeping it down at the last minute.

I third (or fourth) the almond butter and full fat yogurt. I also think that if DS is still nursing, he's getting fat from your milk too. My DS used to eat eggs but doesn't like them anymore and has never liked avocado. He will occasionally eat guac though. Ahhh, the power of garlic...

Put the almond butter on anything, bananas, bread, apples, crackers.. I think she was referring to dry beans like black, kidney, pinto, etc. Dry beans are a hit with almost all babies. (green beans work too of course) I think that any soft, whole, healthy food is okay for most 11mo old babies.

organic pastured butter. You could put some on nearly everything, but my DD will eat it off a spoon.

This. I don't buy the organic stuff (too $$) but my youngest two will eat slices of butter straight. We also put it on all vegetables.

You can also add ground flax seed or flax oil to almost anything. I put it in smoothies, yogurt, and even sprinkle it on buttered toast. I like the ground flax seed because it also adds some fiber to whatever LO is eating. There are lots of good, brain-building fats in flax.

My LO didn't like avocado at first either, but I was very persistent, and what finally worked was mincing it with fruit like pears and mixing it together. Now she loves it. Never thought that would happen!

One of mine LOVES avocado, and the other will only eat a bite or two, unhappily.

I do give mine toast/wheat/gluten stuff, though. I'll spread coconut oil or cream cheese or sunbutter on toast, and then cut it up into cubes. They love this as long as it's not the same thing every day. Sometimes instead of toast, I'll do pancakes. (I made some butternut squash pancakes with some puree they refused, yum!)

I also pretty much add butter/olive oil to just about everything.

Mine are hit or miss on beans. They liked butter beans, but didn't like edamame. They liked the lentils when I covered it all in butter, lol! I'll try chickpeas next, I think.
