Ok, trying reeeeal hard to keep this post open. (I've had too many posts locked lol!) I just want people to see these articles, and decide how to interpret them.
I do Not want to discuss Dr.Gerberding. I'm sure she is a fine woman. In fact, you don't even have to respond to this post at all. Just take a quick look at the links, and think about the info when you have the time.

then read this info.

Makes me wonder how many vaccines were added to the schedule during her tenure at the CDC.

1. The first "article" is a youtube clip that is not very well done. The creator of it obviously doesn't understand the link between autism and mitochondrial disorder.

2. I guess I don't understand what conclusion we're supposed to reach here? That she wants kids to be harmed from vaccines?

I can't tell you what to think, Heather. Your position on vaccines is extremely clear. Point taken. So from here on out, feel free to ignore any anti-vax article I post. I'm sorry they irritate you so much.

If you would prefer that I don't respond to your posts, I will comply. But I was being genuine...

I made my decision 20 years ago, whatever the current debate is isn't going to change that.

Someone at the CDC is in favor of vaccines... and is subsequently hired by a vaccine manufacturer! It must be a conspiracy!

My personal take on it is that I think the video shades the truth. The interviewee did not say that a vaccine caused autism; what she actually said was that in a child with mitochondrial disorder, a vaccine-triggered fever could result in autism-like symptoms.

I'm a newbie, but according to my largely wikipedia-fueled reading, there are some autism-like disorders that aren't classified as autism. In addition, a statement by someone at the CDC in a TV interview doesn't constitute the official position of the CDC.

Also, I get the sense that the youtube poster has fudged the numbers; they make it seem like 2% of all children are highly likely to get autism from a vaccine. I don't follow the red-hot trail that the poster seems to see. I found one wikipedia page saying that about 4,000 children are born each year with mitochondrial disorders, but I think it's safe to say that most of those don't get autism from vaccines, or we'd hear about it from reputable sources (i.e. the medical establishment, not fringe theorists on youtube).

Nor did the youtube theorist explain how these same at-risk kids wouldn't get autism or "autism-like symptoms" from non-vaccination-related fevers, or in the alternative, present figures on how rare/likely it is for a kid with a mitochondrial disorder to get autism or "autism-like symptoms" from a fever of any origin.

Really? No matter what new data comes to light, you will never change your mind?

I've only been researching fo 5 years and I know it would have to be some pretty earth shaking data to make me change my mind. Not impossible I suppose. Besides if she made her decision 20 years ago I am guessing her kids are adults now so even if she does change her mind nothing can change the fact that her kids are adults and she can't go get them vaccinated.

Nope. No conspiracy. Just a revolving-door system fraught with conflicts of interest. I don't think the concern is unreasonable.
