Is ECing easier when you give up diapers?

Thread Starter
My 9.5 month old has been ECing since birth and wears cloth diapers. We do pretty well (mostly pee misses in the morning and never poop). I'm mostly going by timing.

I was wondering if you found ECing got easier when you gave up diapers? He's aware when he's wet since he wears cloth, so I didn't know if it would make a difference. Any personal experiences you'd like to share?

Thank you!

My personal opinion is that EC goes much better without diapers. I find diapers to be a crutch. I can pay less attention so I catch less. It doesn't matter how old my little one is.

for me allowing myself to use diapers w/ DD made me happy to do EC. I don't think they were a "crutch" for me and instead made it realistic for me to do EC.

I am a full-time student, work part-time, have an older child, and had wall-to-wall carpeting, bed share, and don't have a laundry machine in my home. Infant/toddler pottying was just not going to take precedence over all other things for us. Though DD is almost always dry at night (probably wet less than 2x per month) *I* sleep much better when she has a diaper on, b/c I am not worried about waking up in a wet bed! And, FWIW, all the other IRL families I know who are doing EC use diapers with their babies at least some of the time, and have lots of catches, but don't sweat the misses.

I find EC much easier WITH diapers, much less stressful.
