Looking for advice on fitteds and covers for chunky baby

Hi everyone. I am new to cloth diapering but have implemented it pretty successfully so far, thanks to reading all the helpful posts here on the MDC forums. I am now in desperate need of advice on finding some fitteds and covers to fit my chubby babe.

Here's what I'm working with so far:

-1 dozen GMD prefolds, brown-edge w/Snappis (love them and they fit my DD perfectly)
-4 Dappi pull-on covers size Large (not pretty but fit great)
-1 Mother-ease Sandy's Introductory Set [Large diaper w/insert; M/L Air-Flow Cover] (both barely fit on largest snap setting)
-2 Hemp Babies Doublers
-1 GMD Night Stay-Dry Doubler
-1 Bummis Super Snap cover size Medium (way too small)
-1 almost 8 month old super chunky DD (big belly, huge thighs, >95th weight %, about 23 lbs. right now)

Here is my dilemma:

I would like to get some more fitteds and snap covers, but need to find some that actually fit her and don't leave red marks on her thighs and/or belly. Would probably be using the snap covers at night, when traveling, or if I just feel like trifolding a prefold. Have been experimenting with various combos for a “sleep through the night” diaper system: 1 or 2 trifolded prefolds with Fleece-covered doubler in snap cover, or ME fitted with same doubler plus maybe an extra for good measure in the comfier Dappi cover (she is also a heavy wetter). Open to any and all suggestions, please help me! The GMD Workhorse diapers look intriguing but they don't have her size available yet. She is wearing size 2T pants now...so hard to find clothes that fit, and really disappointed that the Mother-ease I just bought are barely fitting her. We are on a very limited budget, about $150 for say ½ dozen fitteds, a few more covers, a couple more doublers...or whatever you suggest - open to something totally different, too. Thank you!!!

You may find that as your baby gets more mobile, she will start slimming down. My daughter was a super chunk at 6 months, and has a much smaller waist now at 16 months. She was in Larges and now back down to Mediums! She's been in the same clothing size for months, but is getting taller. My son followed the same growth pattern when he was a baby.

So I would be surprised if you need to keep sizing up. My DD has been wearing capri leggings as pants for several months that still fit in the waist (actually they fit better now because they aren't as snug!) and are short enough to look like capris now!

If cost is a concern, I'd recommend looking into used diapers on Craigslist or Diaper Swappers. I've gotten most of my stash for a steal this way.

There is a similar post to yours on the 2nd page of this thread titled " chubby thighs, fitteds and covers" although the child for this is 5 months old there are some ideas that you may be interested in. I have limited experience with CD so my response to the post I mention above is based on what I've read and not experienced - but the additional info may be of use to you as well. Good luck!

Thanks, I didn't see that post before, it's eerily similar especially since she's looking for those Workhorse diapers to come out too. I hope my DD does slim down a little, if only to get a break from buying new clothes every few weeks! Though after reading that post and numerous others I am still at a loss as to which covers and fitteds to try. None of them seem just right. I have tried researching the measurements for various diaper brands to see what will fit her thighs and be very absorbent. I am thinking a toddler size after seeing how snug the ME size large diaper is on her, but am afraid they will be way too long in the rise (she is a bit on the short side). Any brand suggestions to throw out there for, ummm...short wide girls??? Maybe I will win the lottery, then I can get all her diapers custom-tailored for her.

Thirsties. I don't have experience with the new 2-sized style, but the sized diapers cover a huge range. They're hook and loop, but that gives an even better custom fit, imo. My ds wore mediums for something like 18 months!

Sounds good. I am going to give the Thirsties a try, and waiting for my mother to crochet a couple wool soakers. Thanks for all the help!

Sounds like you have a good plan figured out... just wanted to add that the best thing I found for my chunky babies was prefolds and either fleece or wool pull on soakers or longies/shorties Nothing to cut into their chunk!
